They were, no doubt, impressed by this deck's outstanding specification including Dolby B, C and HX Pro, manual record balance and bias controls, auto tape calibration, music search and much more Review: Excellent Tape Deck - I purchased the Yamaha KX-393 tape deck used and in very good condition from "Martel Germany". I rarely like to buy anything unseen second hand, but this was an excellent buy. The tape deck arrived much earlier than expected and was extremely well packaged. Once opened, the deck looked immaculate! It looked brand new. I couldn't see any signs of wear and tear at all. The package also included a plug and an RCA (phono) cable. I already own a Yamaha KX 580 SE tape deck, and was happy to notice its remote worked with this deck too! Once connected to my hi-fi, I inserted a BASF Chrome cassette, on which I'd recorded some Pat Metheny LPs many years ago. By the way, blank cassettes are rare and very expensive these days, but I think you can still buy TDK SA tapes. Gone are the days when you could buy a pack of 5 for a few quid. I have a good hi-fi, and this 20 + yr old cassette deck sounded wonderful. I prefer to leave Dolby off, and it's great to hear the pops and scratches from recorded LPs. There was very little tape hiss and sound quality was crisp and well balanced reproduction. As I have hundreds of cassettes, I will enjoy going through them. I'm also glad I transferred my LPs onto cassettes all those years ago! One more thing; if you want to transfer audio from this deck onto a computer, you can simply connect it via the tape deck's OUTPUT (at the rear). You will obviously need the appropriate interconnect. The deck also has a headphone output. Once I live with this cassette deck for a while I may add additional info. Knobs protrude a further 15 mm or so in front, and space is needed behind for connectors to plug in. **Q: How much is it including pp** A: about £140 with blank casette and phono lead and new drive belt on mine! **Q: is this mains powered** A: Yes cassette decks this size are only mains powered. **Q: Does this have a line or phone line in so I can record onto tape from another source?** A: It is relatively low technology,being considered old by today's standard.It features just 4 phono sockets at back,so left and right channel record sound in and play back sound out,but that is all.I have rigged mine to my amplifier using also a phono 8 socket splitter,so I am able to record from a second tape recorder,CD,radio,Turntable,or computer tower,or even TV and DVD sound.Also when required for listening from any source the sound runs out through my 4 speakers.
