Review: Excellent cooler - 85c 9970X - No idea why this is listed as “Frequently returned”. People must not know what they are buying. It’s an excellent cooler, much better and 1/3rd the price of the Noctua alternative. Currently using this with an ASUS Sage TRX50, Threadripper 9970x and it works flawlessly and is very quiet, given that it is cooling 350w. Max temps all core at stock are around 85c or so with a non-agressive fan curve. Somewhat annoying to install at least compared to AIOs, but threadripper aio’s are upwards of $400 and this was like $55. No brainer for no maintenence or worry about leaks on a $6000 system. 10/10 very pleased.
Review: Threadripper 1950x dropped idle temps from 80C to 27C, Better than AIO Water Cooling - I installed this on a Threadripper 1950x ( TR4 socket), and it works perfect. Idle CPU temps are site between 27C - 34C. This is even better than the watercooler I replaced. I built my PC back in 2017. It has a Threadripper 1950x. When I built the PC I used one of the Enermax Closed loop all in one water Cooling systems. These systems are not know for their quality. Reviews all over the web calling them trash. When I first installed it I replaced the coolant with better stuff, and as a result is has run reliably for 8 years. Finally I noticed my fans were randomly running at full blast, when I was not doing anything intensive. I checked my CPU temp and it was 76C. Which was high, then I heard some squeling from inside the PC. I determined it was the Water Pump going out. I took it part and cleaned it, used new fluid, but that didn't help, it still continued to have issues, with CPU temps slowly climbing up to 90C, and the PC starting to lag as the CPU attempted to downclock itself to stay cool. So I needed to get a new cooler. Unfortunately most local retailers are not going to stock any coolers compatible for the TR4 socket. I took a leap of faith and bought this from desertcart, hoping it would fit. I was a little concerned as some mentioned the fans bumping into the motherboard heatshield, and loosing access to one of the PCIE slots. I am running an Gigabyte X399 Aorus Pro-CR and it fits perfect. I even have RGB LED memory and there is just barely enough clearance for the heatsink to not touch. The fan closest to the PCIE does leave a tight gap, but I moved around my cards to ensure a smaller card is right next to it to ensure its not blocking any airflow. Wish I would have bought this years ago. It cools just a well if not better than the old Enermax AIO water cooler it replaced. Highly recommend. It does a great job Update 2/17/2026 Just wanted to update everyone, This is by far one of the best purchases I have made for my PC. I used to CPU mine crypto, but back when I was cooling with water, it wouldn't stay cool. Just now tried mining again. Running with 16 Cores and 20 threads, CPU temp sits at 59C. This is such a great cooler. Don't waste your money on water cooling, just get one of these. Simple, and effective. Plus when fans go out some day I can replace those.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Why water cool when the alternative is so cheap and effective?
*by C***E on August 7, 2025*

Got this bad boy cooling my 2920x Threadripper CPU on an Asus ROG Zenith Extreme Alpha board. Picked everything up of Marketplace for $500 bucks with RAM and waterblocks included, but it was much more cost effective to put this bad boy in and worry about building a custom water cooled system later. I wanted to get Proxmox going and build out a media center ASAP, so I went this direction instead and honestly, unless I add a third GPU and need the space, I'll probably forgo the water cooling for a while. This thing fit fine around all my RAM, on both sides of the CPU. No clearance problems personally. Although one of the fans wont seat all the way due to a built in cooler my mobo has on it. Still, it functions fine and fits in my 4U rackmounted case no problem. And its relatively quiet as well, enough that I dont notice it above any of the other fans in the case. I only have two minor gripes. One would be that its difficult to get it to seat and screw in. I kept thinking it was seated and I'd start to screw it in the rest of the way slowly, in the trusty old star pattern all men use on anything with multiple screws, and low and behold it would pull one corner or one side out and I'd have to start over again. I honestly started to question whether or not it fit. But it does. It just takes some slight finesse. Beyond that, the amount of thermal paste that came with this unit was minuscule, and for me, unsatisfactory on a chip this size. Its like, maybe half a normal tube if that. Looks like 1/4 of a normal tube. Luckily, I had a spare on hand that came in handy. I would reccomend purchasing some just in case, as its not expensive and better safe than sorry in my experience.
