Plastic components are well molded and have an aesthetic and consistent finish. Coffee brewing delivers great taste. Con: The LCD screen has NO back lighting. That is my only complaint! It is difficult to read the screen if the kitchen lighting is directly above the counter top.Thankfully once the machine is set up, it is no longer needed for my usage style. I saw some reviewers complain that the water reservoir is difficult to fill. I find that to be untrue. In my case, I do not use the pot to fill the reservoir, I use a iced tea pitcher, which is only 5" in diameter, so basically, tall & skinny. In the photo you will see I have the coffeemaker sitting in a common cafeteria tray. It makes it easy to turn the entire coffemaker to the side so that the reservoir is easy to access. It also is a anti mess feature for those inevitable "duh days" where I may do something dumb like brew 12 cups while there is still some coffee in the pot. The tray can capture a lot of overflow. I also saw some reviews that the grinder was loud, but it seems half as loud as my stand alone Mr Coffee Burr Grinder. I brewed coffee at 4:30 this morning and when my wife got up for work I asked if she heard it and she said no. I always had to take my Mr Coffee grinder in through the laundry room and into the powder room to grind, if I forgot to do it the night before. It is probably the best coffemaker I have owned so far and at age 64, I have owned many appliances. Let me say, I was an engineer, so I constantly evaluate every product I use for how well it is designed and there are very few I really respect. If it had a back lit screen, I would have definitely given it five stars. Review: I purchased this to replace my original DGB-900 (12 cup grind & brew with thermal carafe) after the timer malfunctioned on that one after many years of faithful service. While I was disappointed I could not purchase the original DGB-900 with thermal carafe (out of stock), this offers the same grind and brew functionality that I have grown to love although with a glass carafe and warmer plate. As a bonus, my thermal carafe will still fit if I needed it. The coffee chute does need to be cleaned regularly, and while some people whine about it, it's not difficult or time consuming (30 seconds!), and Cuisinart has improved this series so the chute stays cleaner and requires less frequent cleaning. They expanded the size of the chute and it was a big improvement. Think of it this way - if you had a grinder that you used every day, you would have to clean the equipment out regularly. After using several grind and brew models over the last 40 years I find this design to be top-notch! Another great feature of this unit is the water filters. Easy to change, and helps to ensure you taste great coffee and not whatever happens to end up in your water supply! While I miss the thermal carafe, this model with the glass carafe has a side benefit - while the thermal carafe cooled the coffee slightly, this glass carafe unit has the heating plate that keeps it warm, and my coffee stays piping hot. The plate can be adjusted from 0 to 4 hours to keep the coffee fresh and ready to serve. All in all, I am pleased with this unit, it does the job and delivers fresh-ground coffee every morning! Who could ask for more? ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Review *by D***D on 14 October 2019* I would have rated this machine a 4.5 if I could. Overall this coffee maker is compact, attractive, and well designed. The water reservoir is in the back with the opening a bit on the small side for refilling. This is due to the compact size but it's light and easy to pull out and turn 90 degrees for filling. The noise level during grinding is lower than the Breville I had prior, due to a rubber gasket on the hopper lid. As previous reviewers have noted, the carafe lid is tricky to remove and replace. A small price to pay considering how hot the coffee is delivered and maintained. A key feature is the ability to program the auto shutoff for up four hours (no more nuking coffee after two hours). One downside is a limitation on adjusting the brew strength over that of Breville machines. With the Cuisinart you select either 4 or 8 cups on grinding for 6 cups water, as an example. That said, it makes great coffee! The literature recommends (several times) to clean-out the bean chute after every seven uses. This definitely needs to be done as a fine bean powder accumulates in the chute. However, access to the chute and the provided brush make this easy...far easier than my prior Breville cleaning exercises.
