But somehow the 2nd one was just more entertaining, more "far out" more special effects, more campy and filled with characterization, and MAOR PREDATOR! This is also a quintessential 80s-90s transition movie, released in the same year as Total Recall and having that same over the top distinctive 90s vibe. This came out in the same year as Total recall and this was a great year to be a teenage boy obsessed with sci-fi and action flicks. It was almost like Hollywood blew its load of cool ideas in the year 1990 and we have been stagnated every since! So many epic movies came out in 1990, I am amazed I somehow saw most of them the same year! Predator 2: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Total Recall, Pretty Woman, Robocop 2, Home Alone, Goodfellas, Misery, Kindergarten Cop, Back to the future 3, Night of the Living Dead (color remake), IT, Jacobs ladder, The Hunt for Red October, Diehard 2, Tremors, and that is just movies I look back on fondly. Compare that to today when you are lucky to get 2 or 3 movies remotely worth watching, and of those two or 3, 1 or 2 are reboots... While this movie won't win any high brow awards, it is one of those movies that really has almost no serious flaws, it ages perfectly, and for older Millenials and younger Gen X people who were coming of age in this time, this movie is like a time machine!. Predator 2 is in that special part of my collection I deem Comfort movies, like comfort food, it's not good for you at all, but it makes you just feel great! Heroes were 2-dimensional one-liner machines, Men were men, women were empowered women, gangsters and villains were 1-dimensional bullet magnets, aliens were scary, and the best cops were violent loose cannons with a heart of gold. It takes you back to the good old days, and when it's over you will probably start looking for other movies from that year to add to your collection. If you have never seen this movie, I can't predict whether you will like it or not, but if you want a time machine back to the year 1990 in all it's big-budget action glory... This should be on your shortlist. Why because it has a story line of a how did that come to be as it is pulling the climaxes out of all the pieces being unveiled. It also has women fighting and not hiding waiting to be saved.
