The individual sockets are individually switched making it simple to control power to individual devices and the whole gang it fused and has a single surge protector for the whole device whose operation is indicated by a discrete green light on the top of the gang. The device itself and each of the 8 sockets is 3 pin and earthed. The device itself is made of ABS plastic, simply constructed and each of the 8 switches (one for each socket) has a positive feel when thrown (something that the Belkin's single power switch always lacked) and the position of each switch makes it impossible to operated a switch accidentally (whereas it was notoriously easy to knock the Belkin's switch and thereby deprive power to all the connected devices). At the price I was not expecting a super quality product and it is not. Think of this as buying a base model of a phone or car with extras in the price. Individual switching and having eight as well in one place has at last solved the annoying problem of finding the correct charger for the increasing amount of devices and tech we now all own...simply plug all the chargers in and when you need to recharge bring the device to what I now call my 'CHARGING STATION' and switch on. 'Simples' no more panic finding the correct charger or forgetting where you left your phone for example on charge. As a fan of all things 'Black' it is aesthetically pleasing something I never thought I would apply to a trailing socket and the green indicator light monitors its functioning in the background unobtrusively. I will be buying more of these to tidy up the mish mash of trailing sockets and plug extenders I have accumulated and bliss to have switch-ability at a very reasonable price.
