## Overview

The Thames & Kosmos Wind Power (V 4.0) is a sophisticated educational kit that lets users build a realistic wind turbine with adjustable blades designed for optimal aerodynamic performance. It enables hands-on experiments to light LEDs, charge rechargeable batteries, and convert wind energy into mechanical power to drive a small electric car. Perfect for ages 8+, this 13-pound kit includes 38 parts and a detailed 32-page manual, making renewable energy concepts accessible and engaging for young STEM enthusiasts.

## Description

Our fourth generation wind turbine kit!Wind is one of the most promising sources of clean, renewable energy available today. With this kit, you can assemble a realistic wind turbine complete with electric generator and adjustable rotor blades that are designed with complex aerodynamic curves to look and work like modern-day wind turbine blades. Then, conduct experiments to optimize the turbine’s performance by adjusting the angle of the blades and discover how to use the wind turbine to light up an LED and charge a rechargeable battery. Convert the generator into an electric motor and assemble a small electric car to demonstrate a tangible application for the stored electricity. The full-color, 32-page manual offers illustrated instructions and scientific information that explores the different types of wind turbines and windmills, the history of this technology, and how wind energy can be used to power homes and electric cars.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: My 4 year old is obsessed with wind turbines. Can this just run by itself indoors? Just for him to sit and watch?**
A: Thank you for your question. Wind Power 4 comes with an output mode. This means you can put a charged rechargeable battery (or an alkaline battery) in the turbine and switch it to output mode, which will spin the axle (which the blades connect to). Alternatively, you can charge the rechargeable battery by placing the turbine outside on input mode on a windy day. Then that energy can be used to turn the axle on output mode.

**Q: What types of batteries does it charge?**
A: Thank you for your question. Wind Power 4 charges a rechargeable AA battery.

**Q: Is the connector usb ?**
A: The wind turbine generator can charge rechargeable batteries, or run off of batteries. There are no USB connections.

**Q: Can you make it spin on its own without wind?**
A: Yes, you can spin the blades manually by hand or with a powerful fan. You can also set it to spin using battery power.
