Red light lets you see things without destroying your night vision. I've seen other reviews complain about the low level of red light output. For me that's exactly the point. I suppose a variable output on the red light might be handy for some. Mostly I use the red light or the lowest level of white light. Tat both of these are available with a single key press is a great feature. I keep this in the enclosed holster on a lanyard around my neck with my keys and a flashdrive for my camera. Everything I need in one place.The kit is fine, but beware the batteries are not rechargeable. I wound up getting two 18350 NIMH Batteries and a charger from nitecore.
