I did not have any issues with rain while using the timer. I did mount it two feet from the ground as the product instructed using a plant hook. I utilized the timer with two extension cords and was able to light 4 small trees and one large tree. Every evening the timer automatically went on at dusk and off 4 hours later. The timer has four different options 2,4,6 and 8 hours.
