Review: Beautiful and educational - This is a beautifully stylish ABC book that captivated my husband and me as well as our 2 year old. I don't think I've ever come across as creative a pop up, one in which the letters do not necessarily simply pop but also shift and transform. We first picked this book up at a library and it was obviously new as all of the letters were intact unlike most library pop ups and what was more amazing was the respect our two year old gave this book. He did not once attempt to damage a letter which is impressive and certainly speaks highly of the book. I agree with a previous reviewer that this is a book for all ages. I can be enjoyed by kids learning their ABCs as well as adults with an appreciation of good design and whimsy.
Review: As simple as it gets - Despite reasons many will indeed find this 'book' as half-baked, the charms lay in its trick of exposing the alphabet to its stripped down basics by interesting (albeit repetitive) paperwork methods. While many books seem to be a complete waste of words, time and money, 'ABC3D' cleverly uses simplicity as a strong weapon in getting one's attention. This is not a book made to shock, work against or force your (momentary) opinion. It is plain alphabet; it might intrigue a child - however, it won't stop adults from running through the clean, strict pages of black, red and white architectural lettering. Disappointments aside for the plain aspects of what it is, 'ABC3D' manages to trigger imagination. It is not the first on the issue of paper artistry, still it is a brave experiment in terms of a book with its very own identity. Capitals, designed in some way to surprise us on occasion, do work as minimalist fun - sort of an avantgarde 'picture book', one El Lissitzky would be really proud of.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ alphabets...all over again!
*by S***D on December 11, 2009*

i chanced upon this book through a random search. and decided to buy it the moment i saw the video! i looked up websites of indian bookstores. none had an idea what the book was all about. online purchase was the only way for me to get my hands on this ephemeral piece of publishing history. so i got on to amazon, from where i have purchased a few cds during my stay in london. the delivery date showed 24th december. i was dancing around my house like a mad man since i could not wait that long. and the amazon gods heard me! (probably they stay in the flat below us!) the book was delivered in almost three weeks time. arriving in the immaculate amazon box, i opened it very very carefully. and kept looking at the cover through the plastic wrapping. the letters moved of their own accord, like images appearing on paper in the developing tank of a darkroom. i must add that amazon takes a lot of care in packaging their products and making sure they reach in pristine condition. i opened the book and turned every page with trepidation, lest i snap some of the letters. each letter was meticulously covered with small sheets of paper to avoid them from sticking or smudging. which is a very intelligent thought! it took me an hour to go through each letter, wondering how in god's sweet world did marion bataille think of this. it was like being in pre-school again. discovering these strange looking shapes and attaching meaning to them. the book is wonderful. everyone who loves books MUST have one in their collection. one suggestion - please keep it away from kids. and buy a big box of paper gloves for people who would like to take a look!
