Dell recommends buying a new printer when the print head breaks since the price to fix it exceeds the worth. I will never buy a Dell printer again. Your fade was first signs of print head failure. **Q: what kind of power cord does it use?** A: Answer: I believe it is just a regular cord plugged in the back. But as an owner of one of these, my advice is to look for something else. The printer cartridges are not available at any retail outlet and must be ordered from Dell. The scanning software is basic and will not do any "creative" scanning that you may wish to do. I put mine back in the box years ago and haven't thought about it since. I never bought another printer but did buy a "real" scanner from Epson. Keep shopping is my best answer.Edit: After posting my answer, now I see the price they are asking for this. I got mine for $40 from Dell when I bought a new Windows 7 machine. $314.00 is ridiculous.
