Research has shown that at 50 degrees F (10 degrees C), only 90 percent of Giardia cysts were inactivated after 30 minutes of exposure. If the water temperature is below 40 degrees F (4 degrees C), double the treatment time before drinking. It is best if water is at least 60 degrees F (16 degrees C) before treating. You can place the water in the sun to warm it before treating." - Rick Curtis, The Backpacker's Field Manual.Basically, wait longer: double time every 10 degrees F under 60 to be safest. **Q: What is the expiration date? When was it made/packaged?** A: Unopened bottles of Potable Aqua tablets, when maintained under controlled temperatures between 60 and 86 °F (15 to 30 °C), should remain effective up to four years. Exposure to heat, humidity, moisture, and air will reduce the effectiveness of the tablets. We recommend that an opened bottle not be kept for more than one year. Keep the cap tightly sealed.Although this product is not required to have an expiration date (taken from their website. glad you asked looks like i need to buy new ones.) **Q: will the water purification tablets kill protozoa including giardia and cryptosporidium?** A: The front of the package states"Proven effective against Giardia lamblia when used as directed". The back states "Potable Aqua Germicidal Tablets have not been shown to inactivate Cryptosporidium cysts." Keri-Lynn, Four Seasons Survival **Q: I have to use a sinus pulsation machine which requires either boiled or distilled water. Would these tabs work in tap water for this?** A: NO. Tap water has minerlas, salts, bacteria, etc. These pills only kill bacteria but filter nothing. All the minerals will stay in the water and will break your machine. Use distilled water. ## Frequently Bought Together - Potable Aqua Water Purification Tablets with PA Plus, Portable and Effective Solution for Camping, Hiking, Emergencies, Natural Disasters and International Travel, Two 50ct Bottles - LifeStraw Personal Water Purifier for Hiking, Camping, Travel, and Emergency Preparedness - QIO CHUANG Emergency Mylar Thermal Blankets -Space Blanket Survival kit Camping Blanket (4-Pack).
