I used toilet paper (4 sheets). One ply, no fragrance. Use spray bottle, then sprinkle seeds. Worked perfectly. Seed roots went right through. No need for dirt or other media. **Q: how many seeds do i put in a container?** A: You can fit a lot seeds, but you'll never eat that many spouts at a time, maybe a 1/4 cup. Soak them first for 12 - 24 hours. **Q: What is the smallest seed size this will work for? Can I sprout barley wheat for my chickens?** A: Not sure what size a barley wheat seed is. I can tell you if it's about the same size as wheat grass seeds this will work fine. Alfalfa sprout seeds will go through the holes, they are tiny.
