I just got a Philips 1200 and can only get up to 180, I'm expecting to have at least 190 degrees** A: Hot enough! It has a PID that controls the temperature. There's no need to test the temperature because I've had this machine for 3 months, pulled many hundreds of shots, and it works great. The PID is mostly used internally to control its operation; you can only adjust it by setting the temperature to low, normal, or high, which I believe is supposed to change by 2 degrees each step. Solis has engineered this machine extremely well. The average temperature setting works perfectly for us. What matters is most is the pressure, and with our Mazer Mini grinder we're able to dial in the grind so we can consistently pull between 8 and 10 bars. The built in manometer makes it easy to see how much pressure there is on your pull. As long as our pressure is within that range, and we brew the correct amount of liquid per pull, it's delicious. It will take you a little while to get everything dialed in the way you want it. You can adjust the programmed amount for each pull. I don't know how it does it, but even if the pressure varies from pull to pull, which it invariably does as we don't tamp exactly the same for each pull, the machine somehow seems to know the rate it's pulling and will pull longer or shorter to get the right amount. It's not always consistent if the pressure is way high or way low. But as long as we're pretty close to the ideal 9 bar of pressure, plus or minus 1 to 1.5 bars, we pull about 50 grams of espresso for a 15 gram load. I highly recommend using an espresso scale to help you dial in as well as possible. I actually bought an inexpensive (just over $10!) but very accurate Maxus scale on Amazon and absolutely love it. We weigh our espresso powder in a plastic measuring cup, get exactly 15 g of powder, then load the portafilter, tamp, and brew. Before pulling, I tare out my mug to zero, then pull, then weigh the mug afterward. I don't need to do that, but I've wanted to get as consistent as possible, and controlling every step of the process is essential for that. This is a fantastic machine for the price. The thermablock is a heating monster; it will have no problem getting you the ideal temperature for your choice of beans. **Q: If the box states that the machine was made in p.r.c., then it was made in china -- peoples' republic of china. not switzerland, right?** A: Yup.
