There is nothing covering the screen when the iPad is in use. The iPad clips into the case, which is virtually invisible once fitted leaving the whole of the face of the iPad invisible.The part of the case which covers the screen when closed can be folded back under the iPad when in use but it is not removable except by removing the whole case from the iPad. This flap when folded back can also be adjusted to hold the iPad at a convenient angle for viewing photos or watching a film. Hope this information answers your question. **Q: Is this compatible with iPad Air 2?** A: No this case is for the older heavier iPad 4 etc. The iPad Air needs a much thinner and lighter case. I bought a Fintie case for my iPad Air but it has an extra place to store the Apple Pencil. They also make one without the pencil holder. Fintie usually tells you which iPad model number fits their cases. Your model number is on the back of the iPad . I also bought my iPad Air Fintie case on amazon. This case wasn't quite so snug but the iPad didn't want to fall out on first inspection. All the cutouts were in the correct place and the prop up function worked OK. Also the magnet to switch the iPad on and off as the case is opened and closed was obviously there because that function worked too.
