Thick, really? Who would want watered-down gesso? I thin it down by about 20% by pouring out enough to fill 3/4 of a 1 pint wide mouth mason jar, then adding water and leaving a small amount of air in the neck. I make 3 jars and seal with cling film and blue masking tape. I add 1/4 cup hot water to the 64 oz container and shake well. I use this first. I usually coat 8 24"x24" canvas panels so there's not much left over; that said, I've had no problems using gesso stored over 6 months. It's fabulously thick and creamy.
