## Overview

The General Hydroponics pH Control Kit is a professional-grade, all-in-one solution designed to accurately measure and adjust pH levels in hydroponic nutrient reservoirs. Featuring fast, reliable colorimetric testing with included pH Up and Down solutions, this kit empowers growers to maintain the ideal slightly acidic environment (pH 5.5-6.5) essential for maximizing plant health and yield. Trusted by seasoned growers for its accuracy, ease of use, and cost efficiency, it’s the ultimate tool for both hobbyists and professionals aiming for flawless hydroponic results.

## Description

General Hydroponics® pH Control Kit accurately and efficiently measures the pH levels of your nutrient solutions, grow reservoirs, and the rest of your hydroponic system. pH control is essential for vigorous plant growth. Nutrient solution pH that is too high (basic), or too low (acidic), cannot be properly absorbed by plant roots. Incorrect nutrient solution pH can cause slow growth, sickly plants, and low yields. But General Hydroponics® pH Control Kit is here to help. The kit contains everything you need to test pH levels and make adjustments so you can easily monitor and manage pH levels throughout your hydroponic grow. Kit includes: 8 oz. pH Up, 8 oz. pH Down, 1 oz. test indicator, a test tube, eyedropper, and pH Level Chart. To maximize plant growth, the pH level of your nutrients should be slightly acidic. Experienced growers consider the ideal pH for most crops to fall between 5. 5 and 6. 5.

Review: Effective, reliable and reasonably priced....essential for a hydro system. - This product does exactly what it says it does! efficiently too! this product is 3 bottles pH-up, pH-down and a pH test solution. (also comes with a vial to conduct the pH testing in AND a pipette which I thought was great, I ended up getting on before I opened the package assuming they did not provide one, but General Hydroponics really gives you everything you need to open the package and do testing RIGHT AWAY!) I tested this on my hydroponic system with a calibrated pH meter hehe.....I wanted to know how accurate the test solution is. The test solution runs on a color scale, acidic being pink basic being dark green. The scale is located ON THE BOTTLE! so you never will lose it. As far as my basic testing concluded, the test solution is accurate; the color changes are visibly recognizable and comparable to the provided scale. 6.0 is yellow, 7.0 is green, and both of these matched my pH meter (in approximation, don't expect to perfectly get a 6.3 or something, this test kit is intended for keeping pH in a safe range, you could play with it and get exactly what pH you want with the assistance of a pH meter but I am judging this based on if a user DID NOT have access to a pH meter going on the test solution only.) The acid solution is very effective, which is nice, you don't want to use a lot of product to achieve results and end up being in need of more solution spending more $$$. I suggest using this 1-3 drop at a time, waiting 20 mins or so based on water flow and size of your container, and doing another test. Don't over do it, always undershoot what you are aiming for; you will save product and also prevent too acid/basic solution......just be patient, eventually you will understand the power of the acid/base solutions and wont even have to second guess if you put too much in or not. All in all, this is a must for a hobby hydroponic gardener or even a professional. Having a pH meter is nice, but some times the calibration may be off and having another testing method as provided in this kit is a good safety. I enjoy testing my solutions BOTH with the meter and the test solution because I know with out a doubt if my solution is within the correct pH range. This will last probably a year or even more depending on how big your system is. Just use sparingly and maybe play with the testing solution with known known acid/base solutions so you can take not of what the ACTUAL color of the liquid will look like in correspondence with the pH. Maybe put some vinegar in the vial, drop some test solution and take note. you will see a bright pink color. add some of the base solution and you will see the color change in the vial....do this before you mess with your actual nutrient solution just to get a feel for the colors! 5 stars for: price, reliability, longevity of the product use and ease of use. General Hydro is kind of the "big boss" hydro company and they really know what they are doing. Every product thus far I have purchased is good.
Review: works as advertised - It's a Ph kit. It does what it is advertised to do and does it well. The test kit works great and often is quicker and easier to use than my digital meter. The color chart is built right onto the label of the test liquid so you can hold up the test tube and determine which color it matches or most closely resembles.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I want the ph down only and would never need ph up. How can I buy just the single bottle of ph down?**
A: Hi, one of the easiest ways to lower water Ph, is to use vinegar, I use white Vinegar, (I am unsure if you can use apple cider vinegar).
I use the Ph test kit in the up/down kit with the chart supplied from the kit and when growing flowers, I needed the 5.5 Ph range. To start measure your water source to see what the Ph is before using anything to lower the Ph, then you have a base reference point established to know how much you will need to lower, In the up/down kit, is the supplied dropper (any dropper is okay), I use it to draw out the vinegar and I use Iceland water the natural normal Ph in that bottle is 8.8, give or take, so then in 1.5 liters I have dropped 13 drops to reduce the Ph to 5.5 +\- .3 Ph, and that is how I do it.
Good luck.
Disclaimer: this esoteric version I am only sharing, you are on your own, heheh...

**Q: Is it common for the PH up bottle to leak all over someone’s carpet?**
A: No, it is not very common for the PH up bottle to leak all over someone's carpet but it is quite common for it to leak all over someone's laminate floor and also someone's ceramic tile floor. Vinyl floor not so much but it does happen on occasion. This is because vinyl is easier to clean so the PH up bottle has a natural tendency to not want to leak onto the vinyl. Contrary to popular belief it is also quite common for the PH up bottle to leak all over furniture. Especially antique furniture made from oak and also black walnut wood. Hope this helps.

**Q: even if i just need to lower the PH is it important to add a little of the PH up along with the PH down when lowering the PH?**
A: No you don't ever want to use ph up and ph down in the same container it's either ph up or ph down one or the other because you will mess your plants up putting both up and down in the same container. If you brought your ph down too much either add a small bit more nutrients or more water. if you messed up and brought it to down then start over and remember what you did wrong to not do it again. Add small drops at a time cause that stuff is strong. I use it by drips. If my ph is acidic at 5 or by the color chart I Add ph up by drips like one or two then shake the container not too hard cause oxygen will cause it to go Up do when you're done softly shaking it let it sit for a bit then check the ph and add what is needed by small amounts as drops like I do it and I never go wrong cause of patience. but never add both to the same container. This is a very good product for the safety of your plants

**Q: What is the chemichal composition of the pH up and pH down?**
A: sorry, i can't help you with the chemical composition. I live on the West Coast near Washington and the water here is almost perfect at 5.5 or 6. You will need very little ( a few drops ) to drive the ph up or down. This product does work. Google " How to change your water's ph " and you will get lots of advice. If your ph is too high or low your plant nutrient food will sediment out and be impossible to be utilized by the plant. I suggest that you get proper hydroponic plant food. I no longer use this product but first step is to find out what your waters ph is.This will help. Good luck.
