They are wle up very little room in any bag and are easy to keep handy on the go. I have repaired and reprofiled some knifes and have used them for kitchen knives as well. I use the ken onion belt sharpener for most of my sharpening now. But I keep these with me whenever I'm traveling. They're perfect for that or if you want a chewo sharpening system and can learn to hold an angle while sharpening. They work great as long as you know what you're doing. The grit is diamonds, so you dont need to push very hard to get good cutting action. I have had some stone delamination, but its negligible. The handles can be a little uncomfortable, but I found that putting my thumb through the hole and pulling the plates against a closed fist is the best way to use these. They may not be the most durable diamond plates, but are definitely worth the money.
