Review: A Worthwhile Upgrade From the Original Wave XLR - I upgraded to the Elgato Wave XLR MK.2 after using the original Wave XLR for about four years. My microphone is a Blue Sona Active Dynamic XLR Broadcast Microphone, which I’ve been using since 2022. The original Wave XLR served me well, so I wasn’t looking to completely change my setup. I wanted something that would keep the simplicity and excellent Wave Link integration I was already used to while giving me the newer hardware and features of the MK.2. Setup was very easy. Since I was already in the Elgato ecosystem, replacing the original interface was straightforward, and the Blue Sona worked perfectly with the new unit. The physical controls are simple and intuitive, and I really like how easily I can adjust microphone and monitoring levels directly from the interface. The touch mute control is also convenient during calls, gaming, or recording. The biggest reason I continue to like the Wave XLR platform is Wave Link. It gives me much more control over my microphone and PC audio than a basic XLR interface, while still being easy enough to use every day without constantly adjusting settings. Paired with the Blue Sona, the MK.2 has plenty of capability for a high-quality broadcast-style microphone setup. Audio is clean, the interface is easy to manage, and everything feels well integrated. My setup: • RØDE PodMic USB connected via XLR • macOS • Microsoft Teams calls throughout the day • desk speakers • BlackHole + virtual outputs for routing/mix management What immediately stood out to me is that the Wave XLR feels very focused. It’s clearly designed around audio first, rather than trying to also become a streaming console, macro deck, video capture device, RGB controller, etc. That simplicity ended up mattering a lot more to me in daily use than I expected. The hardware itself is excellent. The unit feels solid, the single-knob interface is intuitive, and the LED metering is one of my favorite features. Having a clear visual representation of signal level directly on the device is genuinely useful during calls and recordings without needing to constantly check software meters. The Wave Link software has also been much smoother than some competing routing software I tested. I’m using multiple virtual outputs and custom routing paths, and the mixer-style interface has been easy to understand at a glance. It strikes a good balance between flexibility and usability. Importantly, I think this device works for a much wider audience than just streamers. Yes, content creators will obviously get value from it, but I also think it’s a great fit for: • remote workers • people in meetings all day • anyone wanting better microphone quality • users trying to manage multiple audio sources cleanly • people moving from USB mics into XLR setups One small annoyance: when I disconnect my laptop, the unit doesn’t fully shut down and the LEDs remain lit. I upgraded to the Elgato Wave XLR MK.2 after using the original Wave XLR for about four years. My microphone is a Blue Sona Active Dynamic XLR Broadcast Microphone, which I’ve been using since 2022. The original Wave XLR served me well, so I wasn’t looking to completely change my setup. I wanted something that would keep the simplicity and excellent Wave Link integration I was already used to while giving me the newer hardware and features of the MK.2. Setup was very easy. Since I was already in the Elgato ecosystem, replacing the original interface was straightforward, and the Blue Sona worked perfectly with the new unit. The physical controls are simple and intuitive, and I really like how easily I can adjust microphone and monitoring levels directly from the interface. The touch mute control is also convenient during calls, gaming, or recording. The biggest reason I continue to like the Wave XLR platform is Wave Link. It gives me much more control over my microphone and PC audio than a basic XLR interface, while still being easy enough to use every day without constantly adjusting settings. Paired with the Blue Sona, the MK.2 has plenty of capability for a high-quality broadcast-style microphone setup. Audio is clean, the interface is easy to manage, and everything feels well integrated. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It’s a game changer

I couldn’t believe how much this really helps with overall quality of a mic and it’s easy to use! All the built in features are amazing besides one. My only complaint would be the AI noise cancellation feature it has doesn’t really work the best, it picks up fan noise and other noise outside the room. I’d definitely recommend to anyone and the price for what you get, I would say is fair. It does everything you need it to so simple that not having a lot of knowledge of audio I sound like I’d spent years doing it.
