## Questions & Answers

**Q: Where do you get spare shock mount rings for the cad e100s?**
A: I know someone who just purchased the correct sized O rings on Amazon. They appear to be 1 inch in diameter and 16th inch thick. If you want to know exactly what he bought (& I know he's replaced one) tweet him: @BoothJunkie

**Q: Do you think this mic will sound good on a high pitched female voice for voiceover? Currently have an sm7b.**
A: Yes. This mic perfectly capture and delivery 100% original and nature of all kinds of voice. I have many micphones and this mic is best and mostly used.

**Q: Any tips for reducing the static/hissing?**
A: I have to make a couple of assumptions before I can answer your question. First, I'm assuming that this is a mic you just purchased, and you discovered that there is high-frequency noise in the system when the mic is plugged in. Second, I'm going to assume that you have eliminated all other potential sources of this noise in your audio chain. If either of those assumptions are wrong, you'll need to identify the exact source of the noise before any answer will be helpful (I'm going to also assume you know how to do that). If those assumptions are correct, here is my answer:I had exactly the same problem with my new E100s purchased through Amazon. I had heard how quiet these mics were supposed to be, so I couldn't understand why mine was so noisy (same as you describe). I did a lot of research and talked to people close to the pro-audio hardware world, and here's what they told me: CAD is currently having some quality-control problems and far too many mics are leaving their facility with noise issues. You can try to work with them to fix your mic, but you're looking at lots of time on the phone, and the hassle of shipping your mic around the country just to get what you already paid for. When you also consider how many great options there are for superb microphones in the same price range and application, suddenly it just doesn't make much sense. I was advised to simply send my mic back to Amazon as "dead on arrival", and look at another brand. That's what I did. I am now the proud owner of an AT 4047 and couldn't be happier. Wish I had better news, but CAD needs to get their act together or else get out of the business. They have some formidable competition now who are turning out some very nice microphones with no issues. Hope that helps.

**Q: for recording audiobooks the rode systems sell as complete packages for about $250. Someone who has used both—Is this really that much better?**
A: I experienced noise problems with the CAD - hunt around and you'll discover this is not an isolated incident. CAD fixed the issue but it meant time without the mic, and they gave no explanation of what the problem had been. (Also because I'm in Australia, while the repair was free the shipping was a significant cost, probably not as issue for you). For simplicity I'd go the Rode, you can definitely get professional results with it. I'm assuming you mean the NT1A? This is not a mic I have used often - I own one of their tube mics - but I have worked with it in studios occasionally with no issue. It's quite bright but that can help with intelligibility on audiobooks. I haven't used the more expensive NT1 - the newer black one. Reports indicate it's a superior mic but because the response is more even it may not flatter your voice as much without EQ. Listen carefully to some comparisons on YouTube.
