This book has excellent sized pictures are well as well written instructions. A few pictures are not a clear as I would like, but otherwise 90%+ are good.2. It describes in detail various methods of cast-on and cast-off and which ones are appropriate for a specific project.3. It is a tutorial on various techniques. The techniques featured go from simple to more difficult - something for everyone. It builds skills.4. Contains excellent notes on correcting mistakes and common problems with knitting in the round.5. It has some nice patterns for scarves, hats, shawls, mittens and a bag. Not a large selection, but has enough tips and advice to give me confidence. Each project has complete informaton about the yarn, yarn amount, gauge, needle size, etc. It also has featured techniques.6. Gives advice on types of needles but not which brands to buy.7. Layout is excellent and has plenty of pages to justify buying the book.8. Type style is large enough for those of us who need it. How to knit an afterthought heel Sock and a forethought heel.Also, I want to say that I would have like to seen the Spiral Knitting Sock in Mary Thomas Book . . .this is just a tube sock if you do not like knitting a heel.4. I now have knit on circular needles almost exclusively for the last 40 years, even for flat work like scarves or shawls. But short circulars like 8” or 9” are great for socks, mitts, gloves, hats, cowls, sweaters. Yes, you will need double-pointed needles for certain things like fingers on gloves, etc. But learning to knit on circulars for in-the-round projects is a game changer. This book explains not only the ‘how to’ but also the ‘why’. I still use lots of stitch markers for patterns, row counting in multiple row patterns, and row counting. But that might be just be me. I especially love not having needles slip out of the row as they are prone to do with straight needles. This book is one of the best I’ve used to get me from beginner to each ‘next step’ in my knitting game! Circulars make knitting even more of a joy because I’m not constantly searching for the mate to my straight pairs.
