I used to have Meccano as a kid and loved it. Son is 5 years and think this is a little beyond him at present. I built the lift model mostly..he put a few screws in.Lego he builds with no help and takes about 2/4 hours to complete even some of the more complicated ones, millennium falcon as an example. I think mecanno is good because it's real world mechanics, but not in my opinion for children under 7yrs. Mecanno say, I think, 8-88yrs so keep that in mind.Personally I had great fun with it and I'm 59yrs. Don't regret buying it because think he'll come back to it in about a years time. The kit itself is ingenious and includes a nice little motor. It's fiddly to build, you need patience and a bit of thought. The instructions are, I found, a little visually complex. You get a manual for 8 models, the rest of the instructions need to be printed from the mecanno site. I could'nt understand why they just did'nt give all of them in the manual. But at the end of the day..great fun and good value. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Think, build, achieve and have fun. *by L***E on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 March 2014* This product is first rate and gives you so many variations in the same kit.Sadly, the French makers supplied with one vital piece missing and were so slow in responding.However, Amazon were immediate in their response and made sure our young were not missing out on their fun.Thank you Amazon! ### ⭐⭐⭐ 3.0 out of 5 stars How are the Mighty Fallen! *by K***R on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 June 2014* In the long and noble tradition of Meccano, the steel parts in this kit are of excellent quality and the small metal components are well made too. Unfortunately, the gears are a cheap-looking orange plastic and do not exude an air of quality at all.I have constructed the first model of the 25 detailed. It is a sort of buggy with an electric motor driving the rear wheels and with a steering mechanism. Unfortunately, although it looks good and the electric motor will propel it well, the model is not well designed from an engineering point of view, and I had to modify it in a number of ways to make it work properly. The drive to the rear wheels does not fit on the axle provided, and the steering mechanism, which uses an inadequate plastic rack and pinion, is not up to the job.
