This product does not scratch a finish.It dissolves the rosin deposit on fiddle tops and on bows.It will remove small surface scratches from instruments. It will remove the residue from the polishes and waxes sold by the instrument producers.It leaves no residue, even in porous woods.I use it with 0000 steel wool to clean and polish fingerboards.I have never tried it with a machine-just do it by hand.Excellent product-expensive yet economical. Jim Curlee **Q: I have the "white bottle" and it's been sitting for some time, does anyone know the "shelf-life" of this product?** A: I use Finesse-it for cleaning and polishing stringed musical instruments.I use it a drop at a time and a quart bottle lasts several years. I finished my last white bottle a couple of months ago.I like the dispenser on he new bottle better but the product is the same fine stuff. It can also be used to polish headlight lenses if they have clouded up over time.I use a drill motor with a buffing pad and keep the lens wet.Thanks, Jim Curlee **Q: Can you use this on an older trailer that has a lot of oxidation. Will it take paint off?** A: Depending on layer of oxidation it will take off minimum amount of paint, just to make it shine again. Good follow-up to keep the shine and protect the surface would be a treatment with Rejex. **Q: Why has to bottle completely changed , is it the same formula?** A: If you have any 3M product, you will find a toll-free number on the back label. 3M will connect your call to a product engineer, not some clerk with a notebook, and give you any technical answer about any 3M product, even if they have to transfer that call literally halfway around the world to the division that makes the product. When packaging changes, it can mean they wanted sexier packaging. Or, a formula change to meet new regulations. Or an improved product. Or, a totally counterfeit product. The only way you will know for sure is to CALL THE 3M TOLL-FREE NUMBER. They're really great folks who take pride in really great products. IIRC FInesse is "just" a really great (uniform) 3000 grit finishing polish. Of course I'm old school started using it back in the 90s. It is a cleaner wax, meaning it has very small abrasive particles in it along with a wax. It will remove oxidation and scratches from clear coat. I apply it with the wool or wool substitute buffing pad.
