Review: Great little grinder! - I'm gonna be honest, I was not expecting much when I purchased this. I was worried and researched endlessly for a grinder that fit our budget AND could grind my wheat berries into usable flour for my sourdough bread. I wanted hand crank because it will never fail unless my arms fail, but I feared my arms would fail if I had to grind for hours to get enough flour for a loaf. So maybe my previous negative bias is making this grinder seem even better than it is. I mean, I have had ground meat, nuts, and other sundries with the old cast iron grinders in the past. And boy, was that a chore! So when I set up this new grinder and started grinding rice to prep it for flour, I was bracing myself to hate it. 15 minutes later I had a relatively fine grind of rice that actually amazed me. When I moved on to my precious wheat berries, I found I could roughly grind 2 cups in about 15 minutes, then tighten the burrs for a fine powder and finish a fine flour in another 20 minutes or so. The first time I used it I attached it to an antique Hoosier hutch and it did not scratch the wood surface despite all the wobbling. Since then I have found a way to attach it to our kitchen island, just in case it starts scratching surfaces with wear. So far so good. As for the flour... I have baked 4-5 loaves of sourdough with it so far and they are wonderful. Mind you, a lot of that is wheat quality, etc but I have noticed no major issues with coarse flour, chunkiness, heaviness... Also, I am not as fit as I once was, so I expected this to be a bit brutal, but I have found that I enjoy grinding my grain when I have the extra time. Its a light workout depending on how much you need to grind, but certainly nothing terribly fatiguing, even for a middle aged, somewhat overweight woman. 🤣 If I can do it, so can you! Promise. All you need is a bit of patience and a good book or podcast to entertain you. Finally, a bit of advice... 1. Don't fill the hopper all the way. Just add enough grain to fill the grinding area and continue trickling it in. The more full the hopper, the tougher it is to grind. 2. If you want fine flour, don't try to grind it fine right away. Run the grains thru on a loose/coarse grind first to break them up a bit (see my pic), then run the coarse ground wheat thru the mill set to fine grind. And voilà! Beautiful, healthy, delish flour! I am so pleasantly surprised by this little grinder that I really did want to share with others who may also have their doubts. If you want to bake a little bread from home-ground flour, this is an excellent machine. I wouldn't want to grind more than 1000 grams or so in a day, but thats enough for a few loaves of bread for many basic recipes. It is easy to use, effective and affordable. I definitely recommend! *Note: I haven't yet ground anything but rice and whole wheat in it, so I can't speak to spices, flax, etc. I can't imagine it will do a bad job with those either tho.
Review: Grinds wheat excellent, hard to keep tight/not moving - Works great milling but hard to keep tight and moves around frequently when grinding. Easy to rotate and grind the wheat berries, well made but just slides around and gets loose frequently otherwise works great!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Has anyone had this a long time? My last mill started leaving metal powder on everything I ground. Does this one?**
A: As a rule you are supposed to dump the fist 2 cups of ground wheat (or what you grind) to make sure the metal filings are worked out. That is with any metal grinder.

**Q: Can the electric motor be mounted to this grinder or is the motor strickly for the deluxe model?**
A: Deluxe model. Honestly I wouldn't waste your money on the basic one- I had it twice and the handle broke both times. The deluxe one is so much better and not much more money. The motor is nice to have a well

**Q: Can you get extra parts for it? Grinding wheels etc.**
A: corps0331, you said you found a place for replacement parts. Could you share that information?

**Q: Can you grind dehydrated vegetables that are broken up into small pieces?**
A: I don't see why not. It's less hard than grains. It's a good thought... I was thinking of dehydrating home made dog food, and it would surely save space to grind it too! This handles some pretty tough whole wheat berries. I have run mine over an hour with the motor attachment. I opted for this one because I can also hand grind when the power is out. I make breads on the woodstove, which are great. Even power is on I do it! Make sure you realize only this deluxe can take the motor...I know that's not what you asked about...but the motor is very worth it!My only one little issue with this grinder for wheat....which is no big deal... but it may also be true with veggies...sometimes when you are near the end of what's in the hopper, sometimes (with motor OFF please!) need to push the stuff down a little more. Seems the weight of more stuff in the hopper does the pushing. Not an issue with the hand grinding so much, but could be. I poke the stuff down with a skewer and it works again for the duration of what's left in it. Very sturdy, very good, I use it on the finest setting, good fine powder comes out.

Works great milling but hard to keep tight and moves around frequently when grinding. Easy to rotate and grind the wheat berries, well made but just slides around and gets loose frequently otherwise works great!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Finished product is good.

Only used it once so far. I like how it performs. Definitely takes a little effort but the effort is worth the finished product.
