I need these to hold a quilt on foam insulation board** A: Short Answer - not more, very tight at 1". Tested on a stack of my business cards, 1 inch was extremely tight, and took a little wiggling to pull back off. Use your judgement on foam as may/possibly indent. My cards are very standard and it left a faint rubbed look on them although no coloration changes (no marks from product) and you have to look for it, so not knowing - wouldn't likely see on stock paper type products. Foam may be more sensitive to the indentation and also consider type of fabric if more fine but I wrapped the business cards in the edge of a t-shirt and no trouble although still firm limit to 1 inch.
