## Description

WikiReader delivers the joy of information by offering three million Wikipedia articles in one simple $99 handheld device. It turns on instantly and runs for months before its two AAA batteries need to be replaced. The large monochrome screen uses a touch interface. Articles scroll with a swipe of the finger and hyperlinks are selected with a simple tap. Three buttons—search, history, and random—offer the convenience of reading specific topics or the serendipitous pleasure of discovering something by chance within Wikipedia's rich array of articles ranging from Freud to Final Fantasy. Updates for WikiReader are provided quarterly and are available for free download. An annual subscription plan for updated microSD cards is also available for $29. ## Questions & Answers

**Q: I have one from 2009 is this a 2013 or do i just buy a card to update**
A: First of all, I love this gizmo. When I sent for an update card I received a new up to date unit for the price. Either way, it is a deal.

**Q: can my daughter use this as a dictionary for school?**
A: If it is allowed in schools, it makes a wonderful dictionary.

**Q: I just bougt a wikireader; received it today. installed batteries; it turned on but won't go past "wikireader:wikipedia in pocket page". help! or can**
A: Very odd. There is a micro SD card in there. Or there should be. If not, that's a major problem. The database is on the card. Another possibility is folks send horrendously powerful magnets in the mail. I got a temp/RH meter and they put two neodimuim magnets in it to stick to your fridge. Gazzillions of gauss overkill. I had to crack the plastic housing to get the magents out (nowhere to grab them; they were flush to housing AND adhesived to it. Now if this item I speak of was mailed to you with your WikiReader, I would not be surprised if it trashed the SD card. Lastly I'll mention one thing. If you chord the power-on switch with one of the other buttons the device does some other non-Wiki things. Calculator is one. Others tell you battery voltage. Or set contrast. OK one more final thing. There's a go-back "button" -- but note the scare quotes are on button. Bottom left corner of SCREEN pushed with your finger goes back one step to article where you were before. But 1 getting the go-back to register isn't easy and 2 make sure there is no hyperlink anywhere near that corner if you're going to use it as a go-back. All the once-its-working stuff you don't care about now I suppose. One thing you might try -- in addition to the obvious checking to see if the card is present -- is to CHORD the on button while pressing one of the front buttons. If the device isn't damaged, I believe those programs don't reside on the SD card. It'd be a way to see if the device itself is OK.

**Q: Is updated to 2014**
A: The best way to get new content is to: 1) remove the memory card; 2) put it in an adaptor and insert it into your computer; 3) go to the Wikireader website; 4) download the most updated content. It is pretty easy. If this doesn't work with the memory card that came with your Wikireader, then you might need to buy a new memory card. It might be a bad card.
