Review: Great Product, Easy Setup with a Simple Trick! - I purchased this as an open-box item for around $70, and it was in perfect condition—never even used! Setup was straightforward, though I had to use a trick I often apply to Wi-Fi smart bulbs to get the smart module connected. If you're struggling to connect it to Wi-Fi, don’t blame the product—it’s likely due to your phone or network setup. The smart module only supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, but modern smartphones no longer allow you to manually select 2.4 GHz, and many routers combine 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz into a single network name. To work around this, use your phone’s hotspot and set it to broadcast a 2.4 GHz-only signal with the same Wi-Fi name and password as your home network. Then: 1. Turn off your home Wi-Fi. 2. Use another device (tablet, old phone, etc.) to connect to the 2.4 GHz hotspot. 3. On the device connected to the hotspot, open the RCA Water Shut-Off app and navigate to Gear > Devices > Wi-Fi Settings. 4. Enter your Wi-Fi password and click Search to connect. This method worked perfectly for me. The issue isn’t with the app—it’s just that these modules aren’t compatible with 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Once set up, everything runs smoothly. Great product overall!

I don’t know for sure but I think this is an item that was made and sold years ago and has not been kept up to date. The unit works fine on its own without the app and smart controller but it won’t notify you other than the alarm on it. Customer support is non- existent. I’ve contacted desertcart and they contacted the vendor- crickets-no response!! The rest of the hardware seems to be well made and easy to install- but the info regarding the app and smart controller is not correct and I believe outdated.

**Q: Water heater ?: my valve points down so the turnoff position is 9 o’clock position). will this product work for me?**
A: I would think so. Ball valve shutoffs are all basically the same. I guess if somehow your valve was “upside down “ you would just mount the auto shutoff motor the same way. I don’t actually own the water heater shutoff. I own A couple of the washing machine shutoffs and I love them. I guess I didn’t realize there was a water heater unit, I might need to get some of these too

**Q: I want to install on straight copper 3/4 " pipe, what compression fittings do I need on inlet and outlet of solenoid valve?**
A: The MyGuard Automatic Hot Water Heater Shut Off System (model MGWHTR) servo unit was designed to be installed on the shut-off valve of the hot water heater.  It was not designed for installation on a straight copper pipe.

A: Both the MyGuard & RCA Automatic Hot Water Heater Shut Off System and Water Leak Alarm and Detector Systems are made by the same manufacturer - Voxx Accessories Corp.

A: Currently, there is not a gas shut off valve.

### ⭐ Will not pair with wifi

This is the second review I will try to post. Amazon said my first did not meet their rules on posting reviews. The only reason I gave one star is because I tried everything the manufacturer said to do to get the smart module to pair with wifi. Tried to contact the company on their website, no such website, I checked my spelling to make sure I typed the right address. The only reason I bought this brand was for the smart technology. The item will work just fine without wifi, but that is not the point. I bought it for that reason and there is no way to contact them. Not even a phone number.
