## Overview

The StarTech.com 3-Port DisplayPort 1.2 Splitter is a Windows-only MST hub that enables connection of up to three DisplayPort monitors—two at 4K 30Hz and one at 1080p 60Hz—without requiring drivers. Designed for professionals seeking enhanced multitasking, it supports integrated and discrete GPUs, features secure latching connectors, and includes IT-friendly software to maintain window layouts, making it ideal for dynamic office or home setups.

## Description

Multi Tasking Made Easy This 3 port DisplayPort MST hub lets you daisy chain triple DP monitors to your DisplayPort Windows device, conveniently helping you to increase and maximize your productivity. With devices becoming more portable than ever, you are limited to fewer video outputs and confined to your small integrated screen. This multi monitor MST hub solves that problem by enabling you to connect three separate displays to your DisplayPort equipped computer, making multi-tasking much easier. Using this DisplayPort to DisplayPort MST splitter, you can mirror your display onto additional monitors or stream independent content to each display, which makes it the ideal accessory for travel or hot-Desking environments. Astonishing Picture Quality MST technology uses your existing video card to minimize the use of system resources while delivering UHD 4K resolutions for two monitors or displays simultaneously. Plus, because the DP hub can output high-definition 1080p, it’s perfect for all high-resolution applications such as graphic design and CAD drawing. Connect to Any Display With this DisplayPort multi monitor splitter, you can use DisplayPort video adapters and cable adapters that enable you to connect HDMI, VGA or DVI monitors. This ensures your DP MST hub will be compatible with virtually any television, monitor or projector. The splitter hub is VESA and DisplayPort certified to support DP 1.2 enabled systems, for seamless integration with your existing video equipment. This DisplayPort to DisplayPort MST Hub is backed by a 3-year warranty, and free lifetime technical support.

Review: Works great - Only pitfall is how DP behaves in Windows - I bought this to be used with my Windows 7 setup - 3 monitors ran out of one DP port. While it does the job, and indeed powers all three monitors, Windows freaks out when any of the monitors is turned off or goes into power save mode. It acts as if the display was physically disconnected/no longer exists, and shifts all your desktop items and windows into another monitor. That is a problem for Windows when *all 3* monitors disappear at once - it basically freezes and you have to reboot. I gave up on Windows+DP and just went the DVI route. However! This device works great out of the box with Linux. I'm using it at work, Running Arch Linux x64, kernel 4.0.7-2-ARCH. xrandr sees all monitors connected to it, and although there is a slight (0.75-1.25s) delay when setting up the monitors with xrandr, it works just fine and I am able to have 3 spanned 27" monitors running at 1080p through this device. Overall, this product does what it is supposed to - the only issues I had with it were operating system issues that are not the fault of this product.
Review: It works just fine if you give it it's own power supply - After a few months of use, I can say that this DP splitter works almost flawlessly with my Surface Pro dock and my pair of old 1920x1080 screens, with one caveat. In my experience, this model of display port splitter should not be powered by the Dock, PC, or screens, and should be powered with its own independent USB power supply. Any old cell phone charger will do, the one I'm using is 5v @ 750mA with a micro usb to usb adapter. I suspect the problems with this device comes from the fact that the screens or the dock will disconnect or limit the power to their USB ports when not in use, causing the splitter to forget its settings and behave erratically.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: will this work with one 3440x1440 monitor and one 2560x1440 monitor? and will i be able to do over 60hz? they both do 100hz+**
A: I'm fairly certain that you'd be pushing the limits of DisplayPort 1.2. Look at the total bandwidth being used of two monitors and if it exceeds roughly 24gbps, then the adapter won't handle it

**Q: I have my eyefinity 3 monitor setup and want to add a forth, can I use this adapter, and is it active?**
A: Note that previous answers were from 2015. Current AMD Radeon driver software (post-Castalyst) does not support MST, and NVidia has an article on their site explicitly stating their drivers do not support MST either. MST will still work in mirrored mode when in the BIOS and on Windows boot logo, because despite AMD and NVidia not supporting MST in their drivers, they DO still build the hardware to handle all of DisplayPort 1.4's feature set.

**Q: What hz does this have with 2560x1440 monitors?**
A: I have a 4 monitor setup, 2 of which go through the device. One at 3840x2160@30Hz, the other 1920x1080@60 Hz.

**Q: Why is this not using the whole screen. Why is there about 3 inches of my screen not being used.**
A: We do apologize for any inconvenience. We would like to look into this with you. Please feel free to contact us at 1-800-265-1844. Our Technical Advisors are available 24 hours a day, 5 days a week to provide support. Atha, StarTech.com Support

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works as I expected.
*by R***W on June 13, 2021*

I was very apprehensive about buying this after reading some of the other reviews. I just bought 4 Dell monitors with Display Ports and a new Dell I7 PC. I set it all up about 3 weeks ago, and so far, everything works perfectly. It may be that some of the other reviewers are, let's just say, "technically challenged". I'm pretty technical, but it was child's play (er. mostly plug-and-play) to get the monitors plugged in and images showing up on my screens. A little bit of configuration within Windows and the Dell display adapter settings, but you'll need to do that with ANY new system. I didn't evaluate tech support - did not need it. NOTE: I chose this because although I wanted to try daisy-chaining the monitors off my PC. The video card will do it; but my monitors will not. You need daisy-chainable Display Port monitors with both in and out Display Ports - and those monitors are much more expensive. So, this adapter is the alternative route - it merely splits the video signals 4 ways. Same results as the daisy chain method, and I'm quite happy with how this works.
