The set I received still had all the tuning and grinding marks in the cutting surfaces, and the only way I could make a cut was to be more forceful with the mallet. To be fair, once I sharpened and polished one of the straight gouges, I was then able to execute the cuts that I would expect to be able to do with a new set.
