**Q: What are the measurements please.**
A: These are 86mm height 146mm wide and the projection from the wall is 9mm

**Q: is it supposed to rattle when you shake it? something loose inside it?**
A: No it broken

**Q: What depth of back box would I need to get for this?**
A: It would appear that a 2 gang 47mm box would be needed. Depending on whether it is intended to be flush or surface, the choice would be for either a metal or plastic box.

Got this product to replace a faulty switched socket, and it does the job well! There are simple instructions for installation however I would recommend hiring a qualified electrician, which is what I did.
