For the low price of this scale, I can do without the plastic cover anyway. There are similar scales that cost about $5-$10 more that have the cover/tray if you really need one.I make pour-over coffees every day, and this scale is perfect for that because it accurately weighs my poured water AND shows the time elapsed (stop-watch timer) so I don't over or under brew the coffee. The silicone mat is great for protecting the scale and is easy to clean. Besides being a useful coffee tool, the scale also is a conversation piece for when I make coffee for friends and family because I explain why I'm weighing and timing.If you're a coffee enthusiast that wants to weigh coffee beans/grounds & water and time your brew, this is a great, affordable scale.
