This multimeter will measure NiCd battery voltage with a precision of .001V. My Volmate multimeter is quite accurate as compared to my expensive Fluke multimeter. NiCd batteries should be closer to 1.2V, however.

Do you need to hold the backlight button down or will the light stay on aftwr you release the button?

You press it once and it stays on for maybe 30 seconds. But read the reviews. The leads on this thing are junk. Avoid.
