Worked for my VINTAGE 40+ year old Cross Pen
I used these in a vintage cross pen from the 80's, they seemed just right EXCEPT I couldn't push them all the way in. I have original refills from the 80s and those fit perfectly. The originals are felt tip, whereas I wanted to refill with rollerball. I looked on some vintage pen forums and people were talking about sanding down the refill circumference to get it to fit inside the vintage Cross pen - so I got out my craft knife and just pared it down (instead of sanding). Basically, slimmed down the black shaft towards the tip, the narrow part (just the top 1/4 inch). Now it fits fine. Great! Also, I like how it writes so far, lays down a lot of smooth ink, not super thick point not super thin (on the thick side of the line).

Excellent
I love my Cross pen, and when I needed a refill I discovered that ONLY Cross refills will fit, and I tried a LOT. Now, they're perfectly fine, but I think it's kind of sneaky on the part of Cross, though a clever marketing strategy. Maybe there are a few off-brands that will work, but I haven't found one. That's OK because the refills are as high quality as the pens. Gel pens can smudge, but Cross dries fast. The color is a dark blue (not blue/black) and it is easy to write with; the pen pretty much glides across the paper. It's worth it.
