⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I finally understand why so many people recommend this book. I’ll admit it—the beginning was a slow burn for me. It took a little while to find its rhythm, and I had moments where I struggled to stay focused. But once the story hit its stride, I couldn’t put it down. Every chapter had me questioning what I thought I knew, and every new revelation made me rethink everything that came before it. One of my favorite things about this book is that it doesn’t hand you easy answers or paint its characters as simply “good” or “bad.” Everyone feels damaged, flawed, and incredibly human. I found myself understanding characters I didn’t necessarily agree with, and that’s what made this story so compelling. I also loved how art was woven into the story. Looking back, there were so many subtle details and pieces of foreshadowing hiding in plain sight. It’s the kind of book that makes you want to immediately start over just to catch everything you missed the first time. The ending genuinely caught me off guard. I had several theories while reading, but none of them came close. When everything finally clicked into place, I just sat there trying to process what I’d read. Those are my favorite kinds of thrillers—the ones that leave you staring into space long after you’ve turned the last page. If you’re looking for nonstop action from page one, this may feel a little slow at first. But if you enjoy psychological thrillers that reward patience, challenge your assumptions, and leave you thinking after they’re over, this one is absolutely worth the ride. Alex Michaelides delivered a story that is haunting, intelligent, and impossible to forget. A solid five stars.

The Silent Patient was incredibly interesting, and once I started it, I couldn’t put it down. The mystery kept me turning pages, and if I’m honest, part of me never fully believed Alicia did it. I wanted to believe she had been set up. I wanted her to be the victim. In many ways, she was. Rather than a helpless bird fallen from its nest, Alicia felt more like a flower slowly crushed beneath a stone—trapped, suffocating, and unable to grow. She was emotionally defeated, and by the time she acted, it felt as though she believed she had already died inside. What followed was simply the final response to years of psychological torment. The characters were interesting overall, although some felt underdeveloped and were used so sparingly that they seemed more like plot devices than fully realized people. The ending, while satisfying in some respects, felt rushed—something I often find with thrillers. It ended in tragedy, but perhaps there was a sense of earthly justice woven into it as well. The twist was good and kept me engaged, but it wasn’t the kind of shocking revelation that completely caught me off guard. Still, it was a compelling psychological thriller that explores betrayal, trauma, and the devastating consequences of emotional abuse. Definitely worth the read.

Just right pace and character build-up. The plot was great. I’ve never read a book like this, to be honest. There were enough characters that made sense to have in the story line that made it such a great read, but also kept you guessing the whole time. Highly recommend….you won’t be disappointed.

Where do I start ... thanks to Instagram, I found a new favorite author!!! Alex Michaelides, his writing captivates the reader instantly, the story-line is addictive, insightful and of course suspenseful, a little Agatha Christie like, yet Alex brings a blend of intense psychological twists and turns making every novel a real page turner! I bought them all, plus the audio read is fantastic, personally the English accent adds to each highly creative read. This is storytelling brought to its highest level and his last novel uses the fourth wall ... lets say I am still at the bar with Elliot! ***** stars to all three novels, Silent Patient, The Maidens and The Fury ! Cannot wait for number four! CHEERS to Best New Author ... Alex Michaelides! BRAVO!

the silent patient was really good and such a fast-paced read. i flew through it, and i loved how well it built the atmosphere and the relationships between the characters. there was always this unsettling feeling in the background that kept me wanting to know what was really going on. the ending was kind of abrupt though 😭 it literally hit me like a truck. i didn’t start expecting the twist until it was basically happening, so when everything clicked into place i had WHIPLASH. like wait??? hold on??? we’re doing THIS??? i wouldn’t say this book made me feel much emotionally, which is probably what kept it from being a 4 star read for me, but as a psychological thriller it definitely did its job. entertaining, easy to fly through, creepy atmosphere, and a twist that caught me at exactly the right moment. 3.5/5 ⭐️ definitely worth the read.

The psychological elements were intriguing, although some parts felt slightly repetitive and a few characters could have been explored more deeply. The final twist was cleverly constructed and made me reconsider many of the clues scattered throughout the story. Although I guessed that something was not quite right, I did not predict the full truth behind what happened. Overall, this was an absorbing and memorable thriller that deserves its popularity, even if it was not flawless.

The plot is basically about justice and mental health since a woman is convicted of murdering her husband. Using a Greek myth,the author bases his plot about a woman who remains silent from the time she is found standing beside the body of her husband. She remains locked away from the world in a psychiatric institution while police, attornies, and psychiatrists try to get her to speak. Enters Theo, a psychotherapist, who insists upon seeing Alicia to help her. The tale is told from the start by Theo whose own history enables him to believe he can reach her. Through Theo we learn how childhood experiences impact our lives as we grow. Theo himself had such a traumatic life experience as a child that he feels an empathy for Alicia. I found this tale a bit tedious as new characters emerged who were quite honestly unlikable. The kind of love experienced in this tale is unhealthy and most of the characters are disturbing. The victim of the killing is especially deceiving since his wife professes to love him so. He was found tied to a chair with wires around his ankles and his handsome face blown to pieces. She was found with a rifle in her hands frozen into a state of muteness. Theo tells this story sharing his own bitter childhood and current relationship to his wife Kathy. Kathy is an actress who is extraordinarily beautiful so that Theo believes that he can love. In the end, jealousy, betrayal, and deep seated anger bring about the murder of Alicia’s husband. The author’s own childhood experiences in reading novels helped to create this most unusual plot which includes twists and turns. Agatha Christie style does influence the number of suspects as well as final resolution. While I was disappointed until the end of the book, I found it both informative and interesting. There is no joy in murder. Only two or three characters have redeeming features. But final twist is worth reading. The author helps explain it in a q and a. Recommend!

It was a gripping read. It kept me guessing throughout the story. More than one twist caught me by surprise. Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book. It was easy to read and I especially liked how the writer kept me guessing all the way to the end. There were so many things that just didn’t make sense until it all starts to become clear at the end. I don’t believe I would change anything about this book. It is definitely thrilling. I would definitely recommend this book. Especially for those who enjoy a bit of a thrilling mystery, with an unpredictable twist.

... with a superb twist at the end. Quite a harrowing tale, and at first quite slow reading... basically because the patient is silent, so there's not much dialogue! But as the narrative broadens, the story becomes a real page-turner. The conclusion is a work of genius, in fact this is super writing, thoroughly recommended.

After the incident, Alicia completely stops speaking, refusing to explain what happened. Theo Faber, a psychotherapist, becomes fascinated by her case. Determined to make Alicia speak again, he sets out to uncover the truth behind Gabriel's murder and understand why Alicia chose silence. This was a mind-blowing thriller for me. Throughout the story, I kept making guesses about the mystery, and every single time, I was wrong. The suspense kept me hooked from beginning to end. As I reached the final pages, I started to predict part of the truth, but the actual twist still shocked me. I even went back and reread some pages because I thought I had misunderstood something. The revelation was both surprising and unforgettable. Although I was hoping for a different ending, I still enjoyed the book overall. I also wished there had been more clarity and closure regarding certain events and characters. Nevertheless, the suspense, psychological depth, and unexpected plot twist made it a highly engaging and memorable read.
