The Wool Jeanie Magnetic Yarn Dispenser

Bought this for someone who likes to knit but spent a lot of time unravelling tangled wool or trying to stop the dogs running off with balls of wool that have fallen onto the floor! I did wonder if this was too good to be true to fix all the above problems and make knitting a smoother and more seamless activity, but decided to give it a go as the reviews sounded good. It's amazing! Took less than 5 mins to put together and the magnet is a lot stronger than anticipated so has easily held 150g balls of wool with no problem! It glides and is so smooth, while stopping any tangles. Don't pull on the wool too hard or it will spin quicker and you'll get more wool than needed in that moment, but is an easy fix and once you get into the swing of just knitting away without worrying about the ball of wool, you'll love it. Been told it's a game changer, nice and lightweight but sturdy and with a strong magnet, and is better than expected! Highly recommend for anyone into any hobby or craft using wool or yarn!

I learned to knit as a child, so ive been knitting now for around 56 yrs, so ive had more than my share of chasing balls of wool and unknotting unravelled yarn. My sister bought me the wooden type spindle ball holder, that was a total waste of time, the wool just snags and winds back onto the bottom of the inner spindle! I even considered the wool bowl, but reviews say its about as good as the wood spindle. I kept seeing the wool genie as i browsed through the knitting section, but assumed it was just like the wood spindle, how wrong could i be! When i read the listing details and reviews i decided to give the genie a go. When i assembled the genie i was a bit confused as to why it had a magnet?? Then i looked at the picture of it assembled on the instructions... i hadnt realised the ball hangs in the air like magic!!! 😮 I had my doubts, that the ball of wool was going to be too heavy for the magnet, or that pulling the yarn would pull the genie spindle off the magnet??? No! The genie spindle holds the ball of wool just fine, and it hangs as if by magic, and spins so freely that there is no force applied to thd magnet AT ALL! LOL 😇 Being an old hand, i cant bear counting rows to match garments, front and back so i knit the front and back on one needle, keeping the ends of front and back correct i sew up the centre (side seams) the same as joining the open sides so that the garment has correct tension on both underarm seams so it wears better. I also knit both sleeves together on the same needles. This means i know they are exactly the same length and i only have to count the increase/decrease rows once. I bought 2 wool genies, so that i can knit the sleeves without swapping the spindle each time i start a row. The spindle spins effortlessly, and only releases the yarn when it is under very slight tension, so you dont end up with yards of free yarn, it dispenses it just as needed. Using 2 genies is so amazingly easy, no more chasing 2 balls, i just turn the knitting left then right, alternate rows to prevent the yarns becoming entwined. Even so, if the yarns do cross a couple of times the genie still feeds efficiently. I am able to knit twice as fast now, simply because i dont have to pull the yarn free from the ball, or retrieve stray balls from the floor. Im totally delighted with this product, its what ive longed for for years, ive used 2 plastic bags in the past, hung on my drawer handle to try and control my wool balls but nothing worked.... till this aptly named Wool Genie. My only problem now is, do i buy a spare set in case these things go out of production. I never want to knit without them again.

Love it. An excellent piece of kit for knitters and crocheters. Yarn flows freely, stops tangling and saves having to keep stopping and unwinding yarn. Has a strong magnetic attachment at the top of the spindle to allow free movement.

Lovely quality , does exactly as described , bought as a gift for my mum who is an avid knitter she loves it and would highly recommend it to any knitters

A handy addition to my knitting collection. I do have a problem when starting a new ball of wool and find it helps to knit a few rows before placing my wool on the stand and it seems to make it easier to get into a rythm. I originally placed the stand on the arm of my chair but it is much better on a side table which is flat. I must say that the wool does sway back and fro quite a lot.

Well, what can I say, I've been after something to help with my yarn for ages and to stop it rolling around the floor and snagging when doing large projects. I've tried a number of different yarn holders and found each one snags or pulls in one way or another but this one if so smooth and easy. All I can say is I wish I'd seen this earlier. I will admit that the colour of Beige plastic is not the most exciting but this little device is fantastic. I find it works better for me to cake up my yarn before using rather then using the skein as they come as I find the wool runs more smoothly for me with a cake but others may find it easier as a skein. Load the yarn on the spindle and away you go, this wool Jeanie is smooth and study, well made and easy to take apart and put together as needed. Some people online have said that it only runs smoothly if on level or slightly below their hands when working, I've not had this problem at all, No matter the level I’m using it on, it works for me and I will always go to this first. It comes through your letter box flat packed and well packaged and is very easy to assemble and then will take apart just as easier if traveling. It would be nice to have it in different colours but I'm not complaining too much as at the end of the day it does a fantastic job and only holds your yarn. This holder is that smooth, you completely forget about your yarn and get on with your project and only realise something is wrong when you realise your yarn has run out. I would highly recommend this product for anyone wanting smooth running yarn and easy projects.

Wow! What a great crochet/ knitting tool. Worth every penny. This gadget is absolutely amazing. The ball of yarn is suspended on a spindle which is held up by a magnet, so your yarn ball hangs freely. So as you crochet/ knit the yarn just unwinds. So no chasing your yarn on the floor. No tangles and no stopping to unwind your yarn as you work. Just brilliant!

Really impressed with the Wool Jeanie. I have used the wooden spindle style yarn holders previously, and become frustrated with the lack of thought in the design. They require the ball to sit on itself, so eventually when the working strand needs to pull from the bottom of the ball, it gets stuck and pulls the holder over. Secondly, the traditional wooden style holders don't seem to come with a spare spindle (apologies if I'm wrong here, I've not seen them for sale). The Wool Jeanie solves both of these problems. The design of the bottom of the spindle allows freedom of movement for the yarn ball, not letting the strand become trapped. Secondly, the seller of the Wool Jeanie offers additional spindles for sale on a well known auction site - so you can keep working yarn on its own spindle for projects with regular colour changes. There doesn't appear to be a video on Amazon, showing this in action, which is a shame. I found a video on Wool Warehouse (quick google search) which immediately shows how well this works. The Yarn Jeanie comes flat packed, and came through my letterbox - took me seconds to assemble, the instructions were very clear. This would also mean its easy to travel with if needed. Finally, the Wool Jeanie is British designed and made, which for me is another selling point! I both knit and crochet with the wool jeanie.

Es el mejor dispensador de lana, del grosor que sea, que he tenido. Facilita mucho el trabajo ya que viene solo sin tener que dar tirones. Además aguanta el peso ya sea de ovillos o madejas tanto grandes como pequeñas. Lo recomiendo!!!

Je pensais au début que c'était un gadget de plus. Au contraire, ce dévidoir est très pratique. Il empêche la laine de rouler par terre et de ramasser les poils de mon chien ! En plus, il est élégant et on dirait que la laine lévite ! Plus de nœuds, plus besoin de tirer sur la pelote. Je conseille cet achat.

Ero un po dubbiosa ma devo dire che è fantastico. L'ho usato con due gomitoli diversi e fa egregiamente il suo lavoro; basta infilare e mentre si lavora rilascia il filo

Ich habe mittlerweile 4Stück von den Wollabwicklern. Bin echt begeistert brauche meine Wolle nicht mehr zum Knäuel wickeln. Kein verheddern der Wolle beim häkeln, da das Knäuel erhöht hängt und der Faden unter durch Abrollen kann. Gute Idee mit dem Magnet. Ich stelle es auf den Tisch und los geht's. Würde mich freuen wenn man auch nur die Spindel kaufen könnte ohne den Ständer,aber so ist auch OK. Habe ein Video auf You Tube gesehen und dachte gleich das brauche ich. Viel besser als die Holzabwickler. Ich gebe mehr als 5 Sterne.
