Worked as soon as the driver was installed
As soon as the driver was installed I was able to see my IC-718 from my logging software and from WSJT-X. My only issue was that the driver is on a mini-CD, and most machines, including the one I was installing this on, no longer come with optical drives.

NOT an FTDI chipset
This is apparently NOT an FTDI chipset ... the little disk that comes with it has only a Prolific driver. Looking very closely at the descriptions here, they don't actually say which chipset it is -- yup, I got snookered. For use as a CI-V radio control cable (ham radio) the FTDI is much more stable.
