Great fun alone or with a friend.
I purchased this for my 8 year old son for Christmas after he asked Santa for it. I have to say, this is a great game! It is perfect for him being an only child because it can be played alone. This game kept him busy while visiting family while the adults talked. It is also very portable (just a small box) and can be taken in the car (as long as you have a sturdy surface to play on, such as a lap desk)....he used it while on the trip to visit family. It is very easy to use right out of the box, which we love for an impatient young boy. The game will tell you your score and how many words were possible with the letters given. This makes the game very addicting as you try to get ALL the words, which I must say is challenging. I am a teacher and pride myself in my spelling abilities, but even I cannot get them all every time. The challenge is nice as it is not too easy, which can create boredom. The difficulty level is perfect for children (8-10 and up) and adults. Sometimes we all work together trying to think of words. I rated it high on educational value because it is a spelling game. The instructions encourage you to just place any tiles together because it may create a word that you are not familiar with - this teaches new words (my son stated "I didn't even know that was a word!" and you can encourage looking up the meaning for further learning). Overall, this is a great game for both kids and adults.

Every Scrabble Lover Should Own
I love Scrabble. I rarely get to play because nobody else I know shares my love for this game. I have wanted this game since I initially saw the commercials for it several years ago. I finally purchased this game from Amazon this past Xmas. Pros: - Scrabble Flash Cubes essentially solves my problem of not having anyone to play Scrabble with. Scrabble Flash Cubes is largely played as a solo game, although it can be played with more than 1 player. This game offers three game playing options. Game 1 (solo game) - create as many words as you can with a set of 5 letters in a given time period. Game 2 (solo game) - create as many 5 letter words with a set of changing 5 letters in a given time period. Game 3 (multi-player game) - pass the cubes after creating a word, the person to have the cubes when the timer goes off is out (a bit of hot potato of sorts). - Super easy to play with really no setup. Just line up the cubes, press the button, and go. - Replaceable batteries. - Educational: The more you play, the better you will be at coming up with Scrabble words. - Fun: This game is highly addictive. Once you start playing you will want to try to better your score and/or create more words, which will lead to more Scrabble Flash Cubes playing. Cons: - The only con to this game (which IMO, is what I like about it) is that this game is really suited to play solo. If you want to play Scrabble with other people you are better off just playing Scrabble. I would definitely recommend this game to Scrabble lovers, game lovers, and really anyone for that matter.

keeps score poorly
I purchased 3 of these games for Christmas...two for separate grandchildren to share, ages 8 to 11. The other one for my husband and myself to play with the grand kids when they come to visit. I thought it would be a good "family" game. I'm very disappointed. Being an avid scrabble player for many years, I thought that this would be a great way to engage the kids. I've played the games multiple times "alone" and would say that this is much too challenging for young kids. Putting together words as fast as I can, I am often stumped as to how one can often get only 50% of the words available within the time constraints. Did I mention that I have a Ph.D.? This would be much too frustrating for young kids! I've also found that my set does not always score a correct word. That is frustrating for me (i.e., "creed" ?, not recognized??). On a positive note, it is a very compact game that could easily be put in a suitcase for travel. Overall, I'm not enthused and disheartened.

Fun in a Flash
Scrabble Flash is an excellent game to play alone, or in a group. It is nothing like Scrabble, however and if you can't think of words in a "flash", then this game will frustrate you. Game play moves very quickly and does NOT have a pause function, so if you are constantly being interrupted, you will not do well in your game. The game play is fairly straight forward with the idea being to create as many 3, 4, and 5 letter words as you can with the five letters given before time expires. The trick is moving quickly to align the cubes so they will recognize you've made a word. Most of the words you'd use in a typical game of Scrabble can be used here, but you HAVE to align the little cubes properly or you won't get credit for the word. The instructions and a separate READ ME FIRST paper detail how to align the cubes, but it will still take you a game or two to get used to the quick shuffling motion needed to make words and move on to the next word. Also, you have to put all of the cubes together after time runs out to get your score. It states this in the instructions, but it is easy to forget after the rush of your first game or two. This game is definitely not for young children as the lack of vocabulary will frustrate them. A good rule of thumb is their ability to play Scrabble. If they can play the full game with a minimum of frustration, then they should be able to handle Flash well. This would also be a good vocabulary builder for upper elementary and middle school students as it forces them to rearrange letters quickly to form words. The game also has a multi-player mode, which allows people to trade back and forth with the lowest score dropping after each round. It also can be played with only four tiles, creating 2,3, and 4 letter words instead of 5. It sounds like it would be easier, but trust me, it isn't. Overall, this is a solid game which can keep a solo player occupied for an afternoon, which is what many players of this type of game are really looking for in a word game. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who likes word games, especially Scrabble lovers.

This game is NOT good enough for Prime Time. Shrinking time limits are unfair to the students.
I don't love this game, yet, but I do like the possibilities that it shows for the future. The premise of the game is excellent ... you see five (or four) letters and unscramble them according to the rules of three different games that come with the unit. If I had been able to play with Scrabble Flash when I was a kid (over 50 years ago, I'm 63), I would be a much better anagrammer (anagrammist?) today. I do not do well on IQ tests that require too much anagramming. I received a partially defective Scrabble Flash game. Unfortunately, sometimes, it only gives me two seconds to rearrange five tiles before it starts setting off all time timers to show me that my turn is almost over. One time, I just barely had time to read the five letters before it erased the letters and timed out. Several times, I was able to spell the correct answer BEFORE the game told me the answer, but I did not get credit. This game is NOT FAIR to players, in my opinion. For example, in "Game One" (there are three to choose from), each succeeding player gets less time to play than the previous player (trying to unscramble as many words as they can within the time limit). If I were playing this game with multiple players, especially kids, I would want every player to get the same length of time. The same is true in "Game 3" where each player gets an always reducing length of time to find ONE five letter word. After each turn in the first "game," the flash cubes tell you how many words you were able to make (3, 4 or 5 letters long), and how many words were possible, but it does not give you the opportunity to return to the cubes to find more words. Instead, it reduces the time limit per turn so the next player gets less time. The third game also reduces the time limit with every turn, very unfair to any player but the first. Here are my suggestions for Hasbro: Add a "game 4" and a "game 5" (or they could be games 11 and 33 reachable by holding down option 1 or 3 repectively), which are identical to games 1 and 3 with the main difference that the time limit never changes. Instead of telling us how many words we found and how many were possible, tell us how many words we found in how many seconds, along with how many words we could have found. Give us the option to keep looking for words in a set of letters. (In fact, a "game 6" could tell us how many words are possible, and allow us to keep trying until we give up. Another game idea would be to know in advance how many players there are, and in some games, keep an accumulative score, and only reduce the time limit after everyone has had a turn with the previous time limit. If I were still teaching (that was in the 70's), I would hesitate to use Scrabble Flash except for kids playing in solitaire mode, playing against their own previous scores, if they wanted to see improvement, or just spelling words, if they are not worried about scores. Score comparisons are useless in this game, since each player gets a different length of time to play. Still, each of you must make your own decision about whether this is a good game for your family, your classroom, or your rec room. I will not give this game my blanket endorsement until they fix some of the mistakes and let me try an updated unit. John

Should of bought more!
I purchased 4 games for Christmas for the oldest grandchild in each of my kids family. I had no idea that the adults would take over this game and tell the kids they could play with something else. When the kids (ages 6-10) finally got a chance to play they loved it too. The only negative I can give is that adults and kids alike want to spend all their time playing this game. They all were constantly wanting to better their scores. Even when it wasn't their turn they were still very involved watching someone else play. Great game to play alone or with others. So small it can be taken anywhere WORTH EVERY PENNY! Very educational and fun!!!!!

Excelent fun game.
Pro: fantastic product idea. Fun with spelling. Eassy to bring out. Con: manufactured long time ago, so you need to buy new batteries and open cubes with a small screwdriver. But worth it.
