Would this work with a snub nose revolver?

I am using this with a Ruger LCR .38 Special +p revolver. The strap is a bit short but it does cover the cylinder and trigger guard with enough to wrap under the main strap to hold the pistol securely. It is a bit tight. Drawing the pistol from this holster can be awkward, but after practicing, I can draw the weapon out of a Maxpedition Fat Boy bag with a good grip in less than 2 seconds. This is a BUG for me so it isn't that important to be extremely fast.

What is the material that is in contact with the gun? I have seen some of these that have rough velcro on the inside of the loop...

Not sure exactly what the material is but it is like nylon. The velcro is not the typical material that most are used to, it is still a hook n loop but much stronger. I have found that anything but a small, palm size gun gets too crowded so you may want to reconsider depending on the hand gun you have. FYI - I have a versi-pack which is relatively small...

Will this work with full size revolvers like Ruger GP100 or S&W 686 with a 4 inch barrel or longer?

Can't say for sure, but it did not work for a Ruger SP 101 w/ 2.5 in. barrel. Seems to be the shape of the frame and cylinder rather than barrel length that were the issue. Rugers have nicely rounded surfaces which may be the issue. Squarer guns like S&W's might work better, but I'd try one before counting on it. Also, the overall length of the gun could be a factor. A 7.5 in overal length auto just fits.

Would this work with a RMR or similar optic?

Yes. It wraps around the trigger guard, so It won't interfere with optics.
