The part that attaches the light to the electric box looks like a metal piece in the pictures, is it metal or plastic?

The thin mounting bracket (circular item) is metal. This is sturdy, and works great. The light fixture twists onto it similar to how many smoke detectors are mounted.

I need to mount this into an 8" light box. The square 12" fits perfectly but it needs the metal bracket from the 9" round light. Can I order it?

This square light's bracket would not suitable for 8" light box, if you have extra metal bracket, you can order it. Otherwise, i would suggest you to order the round one instead of square, thank you.

Can’t say, neither the packaging mine came in, not the unit itself mention where it’s made. I purchased these for a loft with a low ceiling. Since then I’ve put some in closets, I wouldn’t expect you to be disappointed with the quality. They are well made.
