Craig Compact DVD/JPEG/CD-R/CD-RW/CD Player with Remote (CVD512a), NO HDMI Connection

Works great and super easy to install! Took like less than a minute!!! Nice and compact. Plug-in play…plug it in and it’s ready to go! No need for HDMI, just change your source on your TV remote. The AV plug that it comes with iworks perfect. (Just in case you don’t know -red, white and yellow = red, white, and green)

bought this Craig Compact DVD player because I found a box of DVDs in my attic and my modern TV doesn't have a slot for them. I tried to feed a Finding Nemo DVD into my HDMI port, but it didn't work. This amazing piece of technology, however, did! Pros: Ultra-lightweight: It weighs less than my TV remote. I can probably use it as a coaster when I’m not watching The Matrix. Nostalgia Factor: The loud, angry whirring noise it makes when it loads a disc reminds me of 2003. It's like a tiny, aggressive robot is in my living room. The Remote: It has buttons for things I don't understand, like "Zoom" and "Slow," which is great for analyzing movies frame-by-frame. Compatibility: Plays my burned CD-R from 2005 labelled "BEST MIX 4 EVER". Cons: It does not stream Netflix. The "progressive scan" feature mostly means it slowly progresses to scanning the disc, then pauses, then makes a weird noise, then finally plays the movie. If you are trying to relive the era of having to get up to turn a disc over, this is the machine for you. It’s small, it’s cheap, and it’s gloriously outdated. 5 stars, would recommend for a cozy, analog movie night.

My wife & I are worship leaders at our "little" church; our 5 disc CD player has been threatening to bite the dust in recent weeks; after it refused the play a CD (after it had played it completely!), I decided to get something with decent reviews and that had its own volume control. This unit fits the bill for the most part, best thing is the price. Yes, as some say, it's a bit clunky sounding plus it auto shuts off a bit too quick for us, but it will do!! (it won't be used for DVD playback, at least we don't plan on doing so)

We absolutely LOVE how this Craig DVD player is super lightweight, compact, and easy to carry upstairs to our rooftop deck, which is exactly what we needed. It plays DVDs and CDs with no issues, and the picture looks great on our TV. Plus, the HDMI upscales nicely, but note that the HDMI cable and AA batteries for the remote aren’t included. Overall, it’s a simple, convenient player that gets the job done for outdoor or secondary TV use.

First off this is a review for the item I received only. I realized I may have gotten a defective one so I've also written a summary assuming I didn't have issues. On the 3rd DVD viewed opening/closing the tray started making a strained grinding sound. When trying to eject the 6th DVD viewed the sound worsened and it powered off. Apparently the tray encountered too much resistance which caused the unit to power off. And of course the first thing that happens when you power the unit on is it cycles the tray, which leads to instant power off. I would give this unit a zero star if possible. Ripped it open to get my DVD back and threw this in the trash. Now assuming the unit continued to work as it did for the first 2 DVD's I watched I would give it 4 stars. It was quiet, easy to set up, and compact. The remote has an impressive multitude of functions including an internal volume (for the DVD player, not the TV which is really nice). On the flip side there are so many buttons on a small remote that they are small and the printing is tiny. Probably no issue if you still have young eyes. The one issue that cost it a star is the lack of physical buttons on the player itself. Without the remote you can only power the unit off/on and eject the tray. In other words if you lose the remote or it breaks this unit is worthless.

I purchased this compact DVD player for my MIL who is currently living in a very tiny efficiency. I wanted a compact player this is simple to use for a 70 year old. This really seem to be it. She really does best if she sticks to the basics. This DVD player actually provides a bit more features than just the basics, but it won't be too complicated to use. Update - it didn't work for her. First, it was really loud like you can hear the disk spinning loudly the whole time. Second, after getting it set up, she called and asked us why she can't hear anything even though the TV and DVD player had the volume all the way up. I haven't been over to see what happened, but the sound was fine when I installed it. So either something malfunctioned in a day of use, or it's too confusing for her to use and she pressed a button and doesn't know what she did. Either way, it's being returned.

Really happy with this! It's tiny, takes up hardly no space and works really well. Very quiet when running too.
