Awesome.
These are some sweet 6x9's. I purchased these as the rear speaker of my vehicle (a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer 2 dr), with the 5 1/4 inch component system ( Polk Audio DB5251 5.25-Inch 2-Way Component System (Single, Silver) ) as the front door speakers. Crutchfield SAYS these won't fit my vehicle but they screwed in fine. I figured maybe they were too deep, but that isn't the case either. The tweeters do stick out a little, though. The old stock speakers were flat across the mounting surface and I have yet to put the rear panels back in as I am in the process of doing the whole audio 9-yards with subwoofers and all, and that bit worries me. Perhaps the speaker grill of the trim panel won't fit on because the tweeter protrudes too far.. ANYWAY, I'm getting off topic. They sound great hooked straight up to my Pioneer DEH-P7200HD CD Receiver with HD Radio, OEL Display and iPod Control (I haven't hooked up my 4 channel amplifier ( Hifonics HFi55.4 HFi Series A/B Stereo Amplifier 4 x 55 @ 4 OHMS, 4 x 110 @ 2 OHMS, 2 x 220 @ 4 OHMS ) yet, and I can't WAIT to hear what they sound like given the proper power, as many say you don't scratch the surface of their performance potential straight of the head unit's preamp). The bass is pretty sweet; It goes down nice and low and gets pretty good impact. They even get quite a bit of excursion. But once again they are un-amped so I know I'm only seeing part of the picture. The mids are also pretty good, a tad muddy like previously stated and miles from being "bad", but I think the highs take the prize as far as unamplified sound goes. They go way up in the frequency range and just sound great. Oh and FYI, being that they're 3 way speakers and there are two tweeters per speaker, I'm quite positive they are brighter than the component tweeters in my front set-up. And speaking of tweeters, I do wish these incorporated the swivel tweeter design that allows you to more accurately direct the sound that are on the Infinity Reference series speakers seeing as the back speakers are mounted lower than ear level and I'm aiming for the best sound possible, but alas they've got a patent on it. Phooey. These are also a great value being some 80 odd dollars. I'm not sure that they could be beat for the money. They met and exceeded all expectations held before hearing them. I will probably leave a comment or edit my review when I finally amplify them.

Smooth upper register, incredible bass response, excellent value
I own multiple sets of polk db and infinity reference series speakers. These are tightly competing product lines both offering incredible performance and value. This is my first set of 6x9 by either brand, so I can't compare them directly, but here are my comments. These were installed into the rear deck of an older bmw and replaced 6" woofers/1" silk tweeters. They are driven by an old school 65x4 RMS clarion pro audio amp (back when clarion was better quality). I intended the polks to provide good bass to complement a set of 5.25 infinity reference components in the front. They surpassed my expectations. Pros: - Fantastic bass response. No question. I have the amplifier network boosting the rear channel by ~6db at 40hz, and many have asked if I have a subwoofer because the low-end extension is clean and can be felt through every seat in the car. Dialed in properly, these perform very well to 35hz in tightly sealed infinity baffle (trunk/cabin) setup. These can literally make my very-tightly adjusted trunk vibrate more than my 100 watt rms 8" subwoofer due to the infinite baffle setup. - Highs are clear, but have a warmer tone. - True 4 ohm speakers are easy on amps and unlikely to cause create any clipping conditions - Awesome power handling. IF YOU PAIR THESE TO A HEAD UNIT DIRECTLY, YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED. There is simply no way a head unit can cleanly drive these large speakers if you want to hear them as they were intended by the designer. Cons: - Simple integrated crossover does not deliver the clarity of component setups, but it does very well for coaxials - Speaker cones are quite thin and flexible, probably do not deliver as accurate of base as they could otherwise (though the bass is extremely impressive) - Mounting hardware is cheap and flimsy, Polk could have spent a few more cents on decent screws, nuts, etc. - Slightly less performance/quality for the money than other brands. Infinity give you better overall value in my opinion with their reference series.

Excellent speakers for the money!
I've got NOTHING BUT GOOD to say about these speakers. I think I got a great value for my money. If you're looking for a good set of 6x9 speakers, these may be the ones. My old 1998 Honda Civic EX still had its original radio and speakers. I believe it's 20wx4. Turning it up past "4" caused lots of distortion in the stock speakers. I'm no audiophile, but I made the decision recently to upgrade the entire system because I do like some music loud (not boom boom loud), but "loud enough". I like classic rock with a good beat. Not so much into rap, so big bass is not my emphasis. These speakers were the first part of my upgrade. The installation itself, easy as could be expected. The mounting screw positions are a match to the stock holes, and there was no modification AT ALL needed to fit the speakers under the deck, even with the extended tweeters. The speakers are completely concealed, which is what I wanted. After installation came the fun part ... Making sure they play music. Still using the stock radio, I faded all the way to the back, checked right, left ... Turned the stereo up to 4 (my normal playing level). I could tell there was a lot more sound already, no distortion. 5 ... 6 (I'm feeling the beat in my chest) ... 7 ... (holy cow) ... 8 ... 9 ... The speakers played flawlessly. No crackles, the highs and lows were loud, undistorted and distinct. I'm afraid what would happen if I AMPED them!

Polk Audio DB691 - Near perfect if you're not picky
Pros: These Polk Audio DB691 series speakers sound fantastic! They have excellent tonal balance. The lows, mids, and highs are for the most part evenly presented to the listener. The bass is plentiful and the midrange is there, but not overly present nor muddy. Furthermore thanks to the silk dome tweeters, the highs are very clear, but not harsh like you typically get from metal (aluminum and titanium) tweeters. You can crank these babies up and enjoy clear, undistorted, and intense sonic harmony for hours. Even when played loudly, they will still pleasantly maintain richness and warmness to your ears. At all volumes and tastes of music genres, these speaker will create an enjoyable listening experience better than most other speaker will for the money. I personally recommend these Polk Audio DB691 speakers to anyone that is considering upgrading their audio system. Cons: In a mild nit-picking audiophile manner, these speakers are lacking slightly in the bass department. Before I proceed any further, I'd like to point out that I DO have these speakers installed in a sealed box, giving them the best opportunity for bass reproduction. Even though they adequately produce most of the bass you need, they do fall short approximately around the 100hz range. They can buzz all day long at 200hz, but when you need that sharp punchy bass of a kick/bass drum, there's just not quite enough specified oomph to fulfill the need and atmosphere. When, for example, I'm listening to the song "Segne Deinen Schmerz" by Eisbrecher, the harmonic and physical attributes of the bass drum are barely distinguishable from the snare. Also, when trying to keep up with Meshuggah's "Bleed" and "Behind the Sun", the kick/bass drum sounds a bit more muffled and "ticky" rather than pronounced and "punchy". Even while playing a simplistic song like "Back in Black" by AC/DC, there's a bit of an anticlimactic disappointment where you can almost hear Jeremy Clarkson screaming "POWER" in anticipation of a solid bass drum thud. Although I still stand by my statement that you will be pleased with the overall performance for the money that these speakers have to offer, you may perhaps in certain circumstances, be wondering what you could have gotten if you had spent a bit more. Summary: I purchased these Polk Audio DB691 6x9 speakers about 9 months ago to replace my 6.5" Polk Audio DB651s (which sounded great, by the way). I kept blowing the 6.5 inch speakers; so I upgraded to the 6x9's. These Polk Audio DB691 6x9s are allegedly capable of handling 125 watts RMS, twice the power of the 6.5" Polk Audio DB651. After owning and rocking out constantly to all types of music on these Polk Audio DB691 speakers for almost a year now, I am happy with them. Not one of them has blown. Considering my negligible disappointment with the lower-end bass, it can easily be solved by supplementing them with a pair of 10 or even 8 inch subwoofers. I rated these speakers 4 out of 5 stars because I would confidently say that these speakers would meet or even exceed the desired performance needs for 90% of car audio novices and enthusiasts looking to upgrade, but any picky audiophiles may experience mild despondency in what generally would or should be expected from a 6x9. Other thoughts: I was using a Kenwood DPX-701 headunit and Kenwood KAC-X542 amplifier that produces 80+ continuous watts RMS @ 4 Ohms X 4 in tandem with two pair of the DB691 speakers during the duration of my personal experience with the speakers. With all that said, I have recently (barely a week) replaced one set of my Polk Audio DB691 speakers for a set of JBL 963s. The JBL's have exactly the bass I was looking for. They far exceed the ability of the Polk Audio DB691 speakers in that one particular aspect. For anything other than basic low-end bass response however, I feel it is too early for me to accurately produce a comprehensive review on their comparison or the speaker itself. If there is anything I left out or you would like to further question me about (whether it's specifications, experiences, or other information) feel free to comment and I'll do my best to answer them.

Great sound at a great price
I bought these because I had 6x9 polk audio speakers in the past that performed really well and lasted approx 25 years before finally going bad. I also have a 12 inch Polk Audio subwoofer as part of my surround sound system at home (going on 10 years now), and the bass it puts out is downright scary. So I'm convinced Polk makes some quality stuff, and hopefully these will last half as long. Great price point too. These will go in my car, which is in storage for the winter, but I did test them by connecting them to the home theater system and they sound great. Not sure they sound as good as the really old 6x9 Polks they will replace, but they sound pretty darn good. Polk has some quality stuff and for the price, it usually performs way above its sticker. The performance seems to always be right there with the performance of much more expensive brands. I'm very happy with all their stuff, and love the money I saved by buying Polk instead of the high end stuff. Polk speakers seem to last forever too, so that's a huge bonus. Dont hesitate to buy Polk, esp their home theater subwoofers. You'll love them.

Incredible sound for cheap
These are quite frankly some of the best sounding car speakers I have ever heard. My friends and I are all audiophiles who are constantly upgrading our cars' sound systems. I didn't expect the smooth, rich bass or crisp, not-too-shrill highs that these have without getting component speakers (considerably more money and more work to put in). The mids are not weak, but the highs and lows are astonishing. My friends who have considerably more expensive systems are always jealous when I fire these up. I also have a pair of Infinity Kappas in my car and honestly, these Polks have significantly richer sound. For best results, use an aftermarket amplifier rather than hooking these things up directly to your car's stereo receiver. You will get much better sound overall. Also, I read another review that says these Polks hit hard enough to make subs unnecessary. This is not really true. It depends on your taste, but for someone who likes good, rich quality sound, it's best to complement these with a sub or two, and cut everything below 80-100hz and send it to the subs. These things sound great, but trying to push anything loud below 80hz or so will cause rattling. I'm using an Alpine CDA-105 (which I HIGHLY recommend) to cut these frequencies, and they still hit hard and sound brilliant, and they round out the subs marvelously. A great buy for everyone, whether or not you're prickly about sound quality.

Beyond Incredibly Pleased
I bought these on Amazon, and were supplied by 3 Kings products. First of all, what's included in the box. You receive grills, screws, owners manual, and obviously the speakers. I installed these speakers in a 1998 Honda Civic sedan, in the rear deck, with wire harnesses. It was a very easy install. I popped the rear deck off, unscrewed the factory speakers, screwed in the new Polk's, clicked in the wiring harnesses, connected, and they were in and running! It was that easy. Whoever says it took them forever to put them in a Civic obviously did it the hard way. I did this with my brother in 45 mins tops. They are only powered by the factory stereo, but holy crap are they good! I turned the fade slightly to the rear, turned the bass up a few notches, and treble up one notch, and they sound incredible! I may be exaggerating, but they sound like mini sub-woofers back there! I could NOT be more pleased! I'm planning on putting in a new head-unit soon(if anyone would like to suggest one for good quality, and low-ish price, feel free,) and am looking at the Alpine KTP-445U Power Pack. Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase, and do not regret it one bit. The highs are tremendous. The tweeters are very good. The woofers produce great bass. Overall, very good speaker.

Amazing upgrade
2006 Chevy Impala. These were upgrades to the very lame factory base stereo. The fear was I would have to gut the current system, add an amp, sub, component speakers, etc. Well I am VERY please to only need to swap these rear 6x9's. This car now sounds better than her 08 Grand Prix 8 speaker and better than my 2003 premium Bose 10 speaker. The car retains the stock head unit and is not pushing thru an amp. It is not a loud system, only as loud as you really can listen to it while driving really. But even at 100% volume I get a CLEAR broad sound spectrum. I get bass you can feel, and its sharp and focused. Normal radio hiss is there, you can pick it out where you couldn't before. That is how accurate the sound level is. Swap to a CD and you just have to smile. Very impressive speakers. For those that say they have issues, might want to check your wires for being crossed polarity or a bad component. This is not a powerful head unit, stock single disc CD only. Likely about 25 watts RMS. No way this is the speaker and not something else in the vehicle. Just FYI.

Perfect Sound with DEEP BASS
Previously I have rated these speaker with 1 star. But now updating my review & rating with 5 start. The product is awesome. Mid, high, Low are perfect and clear & crisp with DEEP BASS. There was a wiring issue with my stereo setup and felt the speakers are not up to the mark. But now rectified the issue and speakers are booming with a blast.
