You need one
One of the nicest quality ferro rods I’ve come across. It’s pretty hard in terms of sturdiness which means it’s going to last me a while making it a great bang for your buck. Throws a nice shower of sparks and works great off the spine of a pocket knife. You know it’s a great ferro rod when you see the scorch marks on your knife. At 6x1/2 it will still fit in a pocket, large by ferro rod standards but still portable. Hole through one end makes it versatile whether you tie off some paracord and a scrape tool through it or use it to tie it off somewhere.

Superlative for throwing sparks where you want them.
Need an extra heavy-duty Ferro rod for your outdoor adventures? Tired of lighters that get wet or just don’t work? This thing is the real deal. I spend about 25-30 days each year backpacking and camping, and this thing never, ever, fails to throw a shower of sparks. It could probably last 10+ years, it’s that beefy. Small enough to fit in a pocket. Buy it , buy several, and throw them in your backpack, your EDC kit, and the trunk of your vehicle. Never ever worry about not being able to light a campfire of camp stove ever again. They also make great stocking stuffers for the outdoors person in your life who has basically everything outdoors related.

Bigger then expected.
Wow...this is the biggest ferro rod I have ever seen. I'm glad they drilled a hole in one end ahed of time. It's really heavy for a rod. Feels well made. Worth the money. because of its size, it will be easier to hold on to while striking it. I think this rod will last a lot longer than the average sized rods that I have. Excellent choice for anyone that wants a heavy duty, long lasting fire starter.

Bayite 1/2 Inch x 6 Inch Large Ferro Rod – Powerful and Reliable
The bayite 1/2” x 6” ferro rod is an excellent fire-starting tool and one of the most reliable I’ve used. The large diameter makes it easy to grip, even with cold or wet hands, and the length gives great control and leverage while striking. I don’t use a dedicated striker with this rod at all—instead, I use the back of my Bahco Laplander saw blade, and it works perfectly. The squared spine of the Laplander throws a massive shower of hot sparks with minimal effort and actually performs better than any separate striker I’ve tried. It’s convenient, efficient, and one less piece of gear to carry, making it an ideal pairing for camping and bushcraft. The ferro rod itself is very well made, durable, and consistent. It lights tinder quickly and reliably in all conditions. Whether you’re building a kit or just want a dependable ferro rod that performs every time, this one is hard to beat. Highly recommended. 🔥

Exactly what i wanted.
No-nonsense large metal match for a reasonable price. Used in conjunction with the back of a knife it's effective once you've scraped off the slippery protective (i assume) coat of paint. I use this and a couple of small balls of cotton wool to light my backyard firepit/barbecue. Not exactly survival situation but way less expensive than stinky paraffin firelighters, feels satisfying and if i ever need this in the bush it'll be almost routine. I expect it to last a 5-7 years at least even with regular use. One good strike is enough to light a fire. Would buy again if i somehow lose it- but even that seems less likely if you add a bit of reflective paracord as a lanyard. Good product.

Simple ferro rod, good quality and excellent performance
It is a six inch ferro rod with a lanyard hole in one end. Simple, but the situations where this tool will be essential are just that...simple. You can either start a fire, not for luxury but for survival (as fire is one our base tools) or you cannot. This tool fits that requirement perfectly! It is a quality piece of kit that has proven to be near 100% effective through my testing since purchase. Small enough to easily stow in my pack, soft enough to throw an incredible shower of molten material in to my tinder nests. Two or three clean pulls and I am on my way to a heating, sterilizing or cooking fire (or all of the above) making it very versatile. I have tested it with dry and moist tinder. With dry tinder it is near full proof way of getting my initial bundle to light and burn. It takes a bit more work with damp tinder, but it will work...especially if one has some fatwood to work with. As with all things, preparation is key. Having the kindling prepped to start the ember phase is essential to getting a proper fire going. This will get all of that in to motion. I personally like a slightly longer rod. Four inches is effective, the extra two inches just adds enough extra to make it that much more effective. While there are more expensive rods available, I have not found them to be better than this one regardless of price. Why spend extra for identical results?

A giant ferrocerium rod - just what I was looking for.
I lived through almost 3 weeks of no electricity, no open stores, and waist high water with the help of a ferrocerrium rod. My girlfriend at the time and I decided to "hunker down" for Hurricane Ike. I brought some basic supplies, but didn't expect the storm to be as bad was it was. Unfortunately, our only two lighters ran out and broke, so I was forced to dig through my BOB to find a solution. The ferrocerium rod, some tinder and gathered and dried firewood (no charcoal was available) in a small portable grill allowed us to enjoy hot meals, coffee and tea for the duration of the aftermath of the storm. The problem was, was the the rod was small, making usage a little tricky and I feel as though a lot of material was wasted in our attempts at starting fires. I decided to look for big, long-lasting, well made rod for starting fires in the future in case a similar event were to occur. This review was written actually after my second purchase of this same model of ferro rod. I've been using the same one for a couple of years now and I've barely put a dent in it. It's massive. These things throw out a massive amount of sparks (make sure to sure a rough carbon steel scraper or knife). For the price, it's a no brainer. Anyone who is serious about survival needs to have at least one large ferro rod stored away or even in their pack (may be overkill, but it's really not that heavy). With some years left on my first rod, I feel comforted knowing that I'll be able to start fires in adverse conditions for years to come. I highly recommend this product.

Compact is not always best.
Chose this one for its length and thickness, was not disappointed. It took the place of my other thin cheapy's immediately. Far easier to hold, control, and handles all the pressure you can apply without fear. The volume of sparks is significantly greater than the others I've had. Great for when you don't have time to make a long project out of getting a fire started.

A really good, really BIG, ferro rod!
This is a really good, really BIG, ferro rod! I originally bought one with the striker and paracord lanyard but wanted one to mount for myself and use with my preferred striker so I also bought one of these plain ones. Either way these work exceptionally well, giving big, hot sparks that easily ignite any suitable natural or commercial tinder. The rod is relatively soft, so it strikes easily and makes lots of sparks, which means you can work with it from near the end and gradually work back as you wear it down rather than striking all the way along it from the start, and the size means that it will last a long time even though it does work so well. Well worth it's reasonable price and good value. I would buy more but I'm not sure I'll ever need them!

Great customer service, product was very late due to corona virus but they offered a full refund due to that. Got the product eventually and it's exactly as described.

Does exactly what you expect it to do.
Does exactly what you expect it to do. I'm happy with it. I would have liked one with a handle. I'll probably mold one out of epoxy.
