Very easy to put together, very useful. PERFECT storage solution for useless barstool alcove.
For what it is, it is wonderful. You cannot expect a super high quality piece of furniture for forty bucks. What you can hope for is straight cuts, well drilled holes, an even finish, and easy instructions to get the whole thing together in a short amount of time. On that scale, this exceeded my expectations. I have a bar area under our island that is too shallow to be used comfortably, it is only 12" deep. What this left me with was a HUGE section of my kitchen island that was not able to be used since it had no storage either. I looked off and on for for two years to find a pre-made solution to no avail; nothing was less that 12" deep. I almost bought two IKEA RAST dressers to fill the space and provide drawer storage, but IKEA discontinued it before I could by them. On a fluke I come across these units in a different section of amazon, I had been looking at kitchen shelves but found these in closet storage. At the time I saw them they were over $65 each do I held off until they dipped below $45 and bought two. These shelves-with-doors units set side-by-side to fit the vacant area in my island perfectly! They look nice enough, I swapped out nicer handles, and they hold all of my baking supplies; so now my baking station is on one whole side of the kitchen, conveniently all stored together within arms reach of where I bake. Here is another thing I like about them, they are dirt simple to put together! The first one took me 37 minutes to assemble, yes, I timed myself. The second one took 23 minutes. Everything was cut correctly, I was not missing any hardware, nothing was scratched, nothing was warped, everything was labeled, the instructions were very easy to follow and they didn't smell bad like some things I have put together from press board. Overall, they are a solid B- on looks, bumped up to a B with better handles. This is not an heirloom, this is a storage solution ready to work. I love them, they added so much storage and value to a neglected chunk of real-estate in my kitchen.

Not the Best Choice Out There...But
If you’re expecting a quality piece of furniture, look elsewhere. Depending on what you're buying it for, there are definitely better choices out there. I recently tore out an ugly stock pantry cabinet in my kitchen to rebuild a larger, nicer one in its place, but it’s just too hot to take on a woodworking project outdoors right now (I live in Alabama), not to mention my lack of time, so I bought this cabinet as a temporary fix until late autumn. All I can say is, it serves the purpose I needed it for. And that was to get all my kitchen junk off my counters until I could replace my pantry cabinet. Having read all the negative reviews, I knew what to expect and made the decision that was best for me based on my situation. Construction: It arrived with nicks and dings, plus a scratch on one of the doors. Again, it’s temporary so I won't fuss about that. Also, RTA furniture isn't exactly known for its ability to endure shipping. No matter how well it's packaged.. It’s idiot-proof to put it together. Not complicated at all. I will say this in favor of it, it doesn’t seem as rickety as many reviewers would have you to believe, IF you put it together properly. The panels are screwed directly into each other instead of using cam screws, so that alone helps structural integrity. Once my back panel was tacked on, it didn’t sway at all, even without the shelves in. The bottom skirt helps with that as well. Tip: I’ve come to learn over the years that RTA furniture tends to need a little fine tuning to be the best it can be. It’s particle board, plain and simple, so the joints are never all that strong. A good idea is to buy a few corner braces (very inexpensive) and secure each joint with one on each end. Also, the shelf pins that accompany this cabinet are plastic, so you if you want, you can easily upgrade to a bag of metal pins for just a buck or two. If you know you’ll be storing things on the heavy side, you may want to take these precautions or your cabinet will soon be falling apart on you. Your choice... Size: I studied its dimensions before I ordered it and used my tape measure to get an idea of size where I'd be placing it, so I didn’t go into it thinking I was getting something bigger than I actually was. Surprisingly, it holds a good bit of my kitchen stuff. I’ll be using it in conjunction with a fridge side rolling pantry, so it’s perfect for my needs right now. Overall: I think with light use, this could be an okay piece of furniture. If you have things you just want to hide away that you don’t use on a daily basis, this is your cabinet. Maybe in a guest room or your very own bedroom. You might also like to buy one for a teen going off to college. It's decent looking and better than the little plastic cubbies most big box stores try to shove down your throat during college moving season. It may even last until they graduate, if taken care of. I would not be bold enough to use this in a kid’s room. Again, it’s just not up to the task of vigorous use. The biggest gripe I have is that the espresso color went down from $39.95 to $27.96 (which is the more logical price for the cabinet) only a few weeks after I bought it. My recommendation that you purchase this cabinet is contingent upon you keeping your expectations VERY realistic. You are indeed getting what you pay for. Edit 9/12/2020: I came back to increase my initial rating of this cabinet from a 1 to a 4 because fair is fair. Despite its suspect quality when I first bought it, it really has held up over the years. After using it in a few different rooms in my house, I ended up finally giving it to my sister when I outgrew my need for it. What impressed me is that it has survived pretty much every day use over the past four years, was moved numerous times and looks exactly the same as the day it was purchased. There are no broken shelves or shelf pins. The doors are still in tact. Everything is good. Like I said in the original review, the life of it largely depends upon how you assemble it. I know it stinks to have to do extra to something after you've already paid for it, but hey, it's relatively cheap compared to other cabinets and the tune ups needed to make it better aren't costly at all. Grab a bottle of wood glue, a few corner braces and you're good to go. And that's just for heavy storage. For light stuff, you shouldn't have to do anything to it. Overall, I'd give anyone my complete blessing to buy this shelf. I stand by it 100%.

A great little cabinet
I run a little vinyl decal shop out of my house, and desperately needed a better way to store my rolls of vinyl. I found this affordable cabinet, and decided to give it a shotz because it fit my minimum of 12" height requirement for at least one shelf. It was pretty easy to put together, and everything fit just fine. Yes, the wood isn't superior quality, and it does start to flake if you move it wrong, but it hasn't flaked too terribly bad for me, and I've slid it around on my carpet a bit when I rearranged my office. It has done the job of holding several rolls of vinyl and tape, along with other miscellaneous supplies. I also have an Epson printer sitting on top of it and it's holding up fine. It comes with a piece to attach and mount it to a wall. I see why. It is very easy to push over, so if you have kids or pets that will be moving around this cabinet, it WILL fall over. But, since I don't have that issue, I decided to not mount it to my wall. The color is very pretty and just like the picture. Overall I am happy with this purchase.

Not at all like the taller version- chips easily and not as nice
I ordered the tall version of this and it was a dream to build. This smaller piece however was a nightmare due to pieces that chipped easily, part of the door that had a small crack I didn't notice and the corner broke off, directions that weren't as informative as they could have been and a fragility to the cabinet that while building, one had to be very cautious not to bump pieces together or they would chip a bit. I did put this together by myself. I am a month out of a shoulder replacement and built the taller version of this first. No issues. Great directions. Sturdy, solid pieces. Then, I opened the package for this cabinet and expecting the same type of quality, found chips in some of the pieces and there were hairline cracks that I didn't see until a chunk broke off. I did not want to pack this up and return it. I super glued the piece that held the swing pin (allows the door to open/close) in place as that is where it broke off. I am hoping a dark, brown marker will hide the flawed area but it still makes me really mad that this even happened given the cost of the item. I did know the back would be a thick cardboard. This piece however leaves the outside edges of the door unfinished. One doesn't notice this from a distance but up close, with the door closed and against the outside wall, you can see the unfinished particle board. This piece also had instructions that weren't as specific as its taller counter part. It is quite wobbly and does make a noise as if it's shifting a bit so I had to put a small rubber piece under the legs to stop this. Once filled, it is sturdier but the magnets at the top of the door are very strong and make it difficult to open unless you put your hand on the cabinet and push the opposing way. Otherwise, the cabinet will shift and move. I am puzzled as to why the company didn't create this shorter version of their taller one in the same fashion? I am disappointed to say the least that I have a brand, new cabinet that wasn't cheap with a huge flaw showing in the front. The picture shows this cabinet on top of my file cabinet and the taller version of this to the right. The pictures also show the area in front that I had to super glue and other areas that chipped when gently bumped with one of the other pieces.

Garbage Drawer, Garbage Company
Received this packed at our front door. Seems the box was handled like a ten year delivered it, and from the get go this was a piece of garbage. Let me run you through my story why. We ran through all avenues to get this resolved and were ignored in our requests. Assembly wise, instructions were that of an IKEA sort, except the text was smaller, images was bad, and you could barely tell from the instructions where certain screws and such went. While this cabinet LOOKS easy, what makes it so bad is the poor manufacturing and customer care that Closet Maid seems to shell out. Oh, and the stupid glue, which no furniture from amazon that press board should require glue. From the wooden dowels not fitting in their setting holes right, to nailing in nails where indicated, just for it to break the wood and crack the frame. Now we all know press board wood is the cheapest thing a company can use to make products, and Closet Maid went full "cheap mode" with this cabinet. Were talking dowel holes not aligned right, screws either too big or too small for the area they're meant to go in, warped wood to the point where cracks come through from the crap design. Not to mention, you need to use glue with this 55$ monstrosity, and even then it does nothing but make the process messier and more time consuming, when on top of all the other issues arising at the same time. And of course I reached out to BOTH amazon and Closet Maid. Amazon wanted us to break the whole thing down AFTER assembly and put it back in the box to ship back. Now again, this box was handle by a troglodyte, so after opening, there was no "shipping" it back, and Amazon knows this policy is ridiculous, but of course when you're a conglomerate this high and dont need to answer to your customers or really assist, who's not to say stepping on customer trust and value isn't a thing. When we reached out to Closet Maid. We figured, "Oh, they seem like a good company, they'll understand their manufacturing flaw and refund us for is, or at the least replace it". No, they wanted us to run through Amazon, didn't assist in any way, and basically closed the door in our faces on it. This whole "head in the sand, point the finger" ideology for customer service is the worst by far, and as a consumer, we wont be purchasing from Closet Maid now. SO fine. Here I am, leaving this review. Ill be leaving it everywhere i can. Closet Maid doesn't care about its customers, or its products. Don't buy this thing. Save your money and go to a store. Trust me, you'll thank me later. As well, what Closet Maid and Amazon dont realize is we'll just charge back the charge on the card, so regardless if they want to refund us for a crappy product or not, Ill be getting my money back anyways. YAY consumerism!

Thank You for the bookcase it's a very nice looking bookcase...
Hello, this is a very nice bookcase and the color is so very pretty. I really like Dark Cherry, Walnut, Cherry Walnut, Dark Cherry Oak, Cherry Ash, Light and Dark Ash, and Hickory. Anyways, the bookcase is the perfect size for what I wanted and it fits great under a standard wall light switch and by a reclining loveseat. I have a room that is done up with the Dark Cherry and Walnut and looks so very nice and I was impressed by how good it looks. Yet, I think it needs to be 1/8" thicker on all of the pieces and I didn't need the stackable version and so I would have appreciated a version without the doors as the doors are waste and the number of shelves is perfect for this size of bookcase. I would like to see an entire line of products from ClosetMaid in what I said and yet it's just some suggestions. In that, the different sizes and doing a judgement based upon this bookcase and also a version that isn't stackable and doesn't have the doors. Again, 1/8" thicker for all of the pieces would have been much appreciated. This bookcase is perfect and it's very pretty. I needed it for several Karaoke Catalog collections and it holds up two sleeves per shelf and also up to two Karaoke Song collection book 3 ring binder catalogs very nice. I gave it five stars and because it's what I needed and it looks very nice. I think the quality needs to improve by being thicker by 1/8" and also having more options for an entire line of products in those colors. Thank You!

Fragile and rickety handles.
I needed the “ClosetMaid, Dark Cherry 1307 Stackable 2-Door Organizer” because this is the only item I found that matched and could replace an existing book-shelf I had with no doors, and I needed one with doors. The item was fairly easy to assemble, however, I feel it is better to install the handles after hammering the nails in to attach the rear-board with the frame. Pulling out the doors without the handles installed should not be too much of a hassle. The handle-less doors can be opened by inserting a wire bent to form a hook into the holes for the handles. What I like: 1. The finish is decent. 2. It is easy to put together. 3. Appears to be sturdy enough for a bookshelf. What I do not like about this item: 1. The doors do not line up. 2. The handles are made of cheap plastic that feel like hardened dough, do not have metal inserts inside for the screws to catch onto, and can easily break. 3. The price is too much for the quality of the item and considering the fact I had to purchase after-market handles made of metal to replace the handles this item came with. This is not worth more than $50 as of the year 2021. With the kind of handles it came with, I would avoid this item altogether. See pictures. Overall, disappointing.

Best cabinets I’ve ever purchased
These stackable cabinets are great as a pantry or for organizing arts and crafts. I previously had 7 and sold them when I moved only to find I needed them again! I started with 4 for my art supplies since my new place has a huge pantry. One can even purchase bins and boxes, drawers and accessories for these made from clear plastic. I found them available through Home Hardware but do a search for “closet maid” and see what you can find on Amazon. These are great for many uses and hold up for years. They still looked brand new after 6 years of use. Highly recommended!

Minimum space for maximum storage
I bought a similar cabinet from Walmart several years back and then I needed another one for my growing blurays' storage. And I am happy for my purchase from Amazon. First, I was worried about the colour "expresso" but it looks actually more like black which matches my existing one. Second, the assembly was as easy as fun, anyone who can fry an overeasy egg can do this assembling work. Now the new one nicely line up with the old and two cabinets can store many hundreds of blurays, DVDs and video games. If you look for some space-saving for more storage, and if you think the price is right, it's a good choice.
