Can this machine sew through jeans?

Yes, just make sure you are using the right needle and presser foot for the task, proper thread and thread tension.

Does this machine have a good light on it?

It's a decent light. It's a white LED light, which is much better than what I had on my old Singer machine. I spend 8+ hours a day on my machine so I have an additional sewing light that I attach to my machine to use as the day goes on.
