How do you change the blade?

Fully extend the blade, you will see a metal tab at the top, depress the tab and pull the blade straight out. To install a new blade, depress the metal tab again and insert blade.

No, it does not retract automatically. I don't like the knife. Mine fell part. I prefer a cheap $1.00 manually retractable knife with internal storage for 5 extra blades.
