Does it actually sounds like an acustic when unplugged?

Doesn't really sound very impressive when unplugged, but you can hear yourself well enough that it's useful for quiet practice. The TL-12 is designed to sound great when it's plugged in to an amp, PA, or recording rig. Thin body means it's easy to handle when performing, especially if you're singing too.

Is the preamp the tl-3 or tl-6 on the steel string natural?

The preamp on my nylon strings guitar is tl-3.

Does this have a solid body underneath the strings to possibly accommodate electric pick ups? Obviously I would have to do some major modifications

It is listed as an acoustic/electric so it already has a pickup. The body is not completely hollow like a traditional acoustic.
