I have taken Selenium for years as selenium is most helpful in the production of thyroid hormones and converting T4 to the active T3 which always helps when my thyroid slows. Research also shows that it alleviates the toxic effects of excessive iodine on thyroid which is more common then people realize due to the addiition of it to table salt, increasing urinary iodine excretion. As an anti-oxidant, it protects against free radical damage. Selenium can help raise your level of glutathione which I found does help in the detox of heavy metals and toxins. I had found that mercury binds to selenium so I found it was especially important supplement to take more when I was dealing with excess mercury. A couple of Brazil Nuts or some blackstrap molasses I used as natural sources as well, but I find that this Now selenium is such as excellent value and easier to take. Most selenium pills have a slight odor. Were I rich, I would buy everything without fillers such as the 3x higher priced Pure Encapsulations selenium and thats the only reason for the 4 and not 5 stars. I wonder if I went completely filler free, I would in turn find my natural pheromones to skyrocket and be chased by millions of women like an axe commercial..Maybe I'll have to try that someday and see. In the meanwhile, I have had good success with this now product, and get a hair tissue mineral analysis to check the levels, as both deficiency and large excess can cause problems since our bodies are a balance beam.
