Perfect Mid-Sized WorkhorseโThe Boos Quality Without the Bulk
I finally upgraded my old bamboo board to this Boos Chop-N-Slice maple block, and I couldn't be happier. I wanted the famous Boos quality, but the massive 2-inch blocks were just too big and heavy for my smaller apartment kitchen. This 18" x 12" x 1.25" model is the perfect compromise. Why This Board is a Winner: * Ideal Size and Weight: At 18"x12", itโs large enough to handle chopping a pile of vegetables or prepping a whole chicken, but still small enough to fit easily in my sink for cleaning and to store upright in a cabinet. At around 8 lbs, it has enough heft to stay put on the counter without sliding around, which was my biggest frustration with lighter boards. * The Butcher Block Quality: It has that beautiful, solid maple grain that Boos is known for. The 1.25" thickness feels substantial and professional. Itโs reversible, which is greatโI use one side strictly for produce and the other for raw meats. * Easy on Knives: My chef's knife feels fantastic on this surface. Unlike glass or plastic boards, the maple is forgiving, helping my edges stay sharp longer. The cuts close up nicely, too. * Eased Corners: It's a small detail, but the slightly rounded corners make it comfortable to lift and move without sharp edges digging into your hands. The Reality of Wood Care: * You MUST Condition It: This is the trade-off for having a quality wooden board. If you buy this and don't buy the Boos Oil/Cream, youโre doing it wrong. I oiled it three times right out of the box until it stopped absorbing the oil, and now I hit it with the cream every 3-4 weeks. This keeps it from drying out and cracking. It takes five minutes, and it's essential. * Handwash Immediately: No dishwasher, no soaking. Wipe it down right after use, rinse quickly, and dry it standing up. It's a habit you need to adopt for any good wooden board. Summary: If you love to cook but don't want a massive, 20-pound centerpiece butcher block, this Chop-N-Slice model is the perfect choice. It delivers the professional feel, stability, and knife-care benefits of a Boos Block in a practical, everyday size. Worth every penny for a piece that will last a lifetime!

Functional cutting board
Great quality, heavy chopping board for your wannabe chef friends! Do NOT dish wash this, for the love of god. One time wonโt hurt it much but before you know it the thing is cracked and warped like you wouldnโt believe. Take the time to wash it by hand. Otherwise, itโs a straightforward board. The thing doesnโt chop food for you so Iโm not sure what else I can review on it. Itโs functional

Poor Quality, poor customer service.
The cutting board begin warping almost immediately upon using it. I only hand washed, never soaked the board, and frequently applied mineral oil. Within 16 months of purchase, the block began to separate between boards. I reviewed the Boos warranty online and it only covers issues within 1 year of purchase. I reached out to Boos anyways to try to explain the situation and they refused to help me out, even though the board is clearly defective. I will never purchase a Boos cutting board again. I have other brands of cutting boards that have lasted 10+ years without warping or splitting.

Grateful
Absolutely fantastic product. I feel the quality when I use this USA made cutting board and that quality helps me prep for the perfect meal every time. This is the best cutting board I have ever owned. This wood does not damage the cutting edge of my knives, is easy to clean, and very sanitary. No microplastics here, all natural! By far one of my best purchases this year, because I just want to use the board every opportunity I get which means eating healthy and saving money from eating out. Plus, Iโve become a way better cook since owning this board due to the extra time I spent cooking! One thing I will say is that you need to oil this board regularly. The ownerโs manual says to oil every month, but sometimes you need to do it maybe every three to four weeks depending on how much you use it. If it feels a tad dry, just quickly slap a little even coat on that baby and rub it in. If you properly maintain, this cutting board is built to last and will be the last one youโll need.

Good Cutting Board (For The Price)
This is my second John Boos Maple cutting board. My first was 15" x 20" x 1.25". I too have had issues with some splitting along the edges of the board, between the laminate joints. I repaired these cracks by using Varathane polyurethane to drip along the cracked areas, allowing it to penetrate the cracks, drying thoroughly, and then sanding. I never did soak the board in the sink, though I did run water from the faucet over it. Long story short, I have a love/hate relationship with John Boos blocks. I went ahead and ordered my second, 18" x 12" block mostly because the price is right and it's good looking; if it cracks noticeably and substantially, I can repair the cracks as described above, or order a new one. In the area of cutting boards, I think the old adage may be true: "They just don't make them like they used to." While it's tempting to think that no cracking will occur with the thicker and more expensive boards, I'm not certain that's the case. Perhaps at some point I'll explore solid, one-piece cutting boards. With them, you'd think the only problem you may encounter would be warping. In any case, at $39.95, this 12" x 18" maple board can be replaced roughly six times before I am at the high end of the price range for cutting boards of this size.

I will buy John Boos every day and twice on Sunday. Fantastic Product.
My fourth Boos Block. I love it but I did order the wrong size. I have the 18". Thought I purchased the 20" but it arrived in PERFECT condition so I kept it. It is flawless. I only had to send one small Boos Block back once as it was practically cracked down the middle and I am certain that happened during shipping. I had ZERO problems with the return and and purchased a second just like it that I still have and use almost every day. I love my Boos Blocks and plan on getting 2 or 3 more, smaller ones and different woods for Charcuterie boards. I also have the 24" x 18" x 2 1/4 that is a cooks dream. .If you process your blocks after purchase the way any good wood should be treated you will find Boos Blocks will last you a lifetime. I will buy John Boos every day and twice on Sunday.

Great q6
2nd one I have bought, medium size . Boos boards are excellent quality and will last for decades if you oil and cream them. Can be sanded when wear is excessive.
