The Three-Body Problem Series The Three-Body Problem The Dark Forest Death's End Other Books by Cixin Liu Ball Lightning Supernova Era To Hold Up the Sky The Wandering Earth A View from the Stars Review: Very well thought of story line with a lot of ideas to think about - I didn't know anything about this book or the author, just saw the book in a local bookstore, then checked the rating on desertcart and bought it. I did not read any of the customer reviews to not spoil the reading for me. My own impression was very good. Still in the middle of the 3rd book (Death's End) but I am sure it won't disappoint. I am impressed by the content of the books, so far "The Dark Forest" is the best. All the books have so many ideas that one can just think about for days, and some of these ideas come with Liu Cixin's interpretation and contemplation, which are well within the reasoning and logic boundaries, but still make one think deeper about essential questions. The storyline is also well preserved throughout the books, although they go back and forth in time, but still nothing confusing, just filling in more details, which I would think were not necessary, but after reading I got surprised at how deep he thought about all the details that he's able to provide so much without making it sound like nonsense or boring. After completing the 2nd book, I read some reviews on goodreads, and a lot of people claimed to have been disappointed, mostly because of the story not being good and the characters very dry and artificial, some accused him of misogyny and sexism. My take on this is if you really want to read this book as a masterpiece of literature and you're looking for all the sophisticated details in characters and scene descriptions, you better skip this set and just read something from Dostoevsky or Leo Tolstoy, but if you are curious about interesting content and fascinating ideas about both everyday things you even don't stop to think about and things that you don't think about because you can't even start imagining such things, then this book is well worth the money and the time. Hope this helps! Review: I love this style. - Really engaging narrative. The flow and vibe is completely different from anything I am used to. But I really loved it. I say the story has the rhythm of waves lapping at the shore as the tide comes in. Each wave similar to the one before except in its shape and intensity, until finally a large wave crashes over the reader. Theres a part about hiding truths in fiction that was really fun to think about, bringing to mind the riddles from the hobbit. The books provide a genuinely unique perspective to a lot of questions asked by scifi.

Sci-Fi and Philosophy. Loved it.
Cixin Liu crafted a magnificent world, and a terrifying universe. I was reading a sci-fi novel where humanity's search for extra terrestrial life was achieved, but not the romantic notion one would expect of it. Yet, throughout the adventures of humankind's preparation for battle and prevention of its extinction, came numerous philosophical questions. Should we be afraid? Do we still hold on to love for an unfair and unyielding yet invisible enemy? I was introduced to the book through the Netflix show, and now know that TV cannot accurately reflect the brilliance of this novel.

Be Careful What Messages You Are Sending Out to the Galaxy!
Last year I watched a series on Netflix called "Three Body Problem" that blew me away. I started reading the books after a friend told me that the books were even better than the series. The story, written by Chinese author Liu Cixin, begins with scientists in the late 1960s sending signals out into space looking for signs of other civilizations. A Chinese team figures out a way to amplify their message. Years later, they receive a response from an alien on another world--warning them to stop communicating, or else the leaders of that world will come to colonize Earth. Unfortunately for Earth, the member of the team that receives that message is an unhappy astrophysicist whose father had been killed during the Communist takeover of China. She sends a second message welcoming the invaders! I'm on Book 3 of the trilogy, and I think I'm going to give the trilogy 4 stars, even though I'm struggling a bit with Books 2 and 3. Book 1 reads like an actual story that mostly tracks with the Netflix series. Books 2 and 3 are more like collections of interrelated short stories that fill in details and keep the story moving forward, but that also flip back and forth in time and across space so much that it becomes a little hard to follow at times. If you like really technical, "hard" science fiction, and don't mind jumping around in time and space, this is a good trilogy to read! Also, I just saw a commercial that Season 2 of Three Body Problem will be coming out soon on Netflix!

A Masterpiece of Modern Science Fiction
This is one of the best works of science fiction I've ever read. This will be a series to rival the foundation, dune , or the culture series. So creative, so interesting, so well written and translated. I found myself taken aback over and over again by the intricacy of this story and the daring with which it faced the logical outcomes of modern philosophy and the trajectory of progress. At the end of the book I was left with a deep feeling of gratitude. I realized no matter the powers or extent of progress there will never be a time more precious than the present because we imbue it with meaning by choosing to be present. There is nothing better than being in your time. The characters in this book struggle with this choice and through then one can realize the same choice is already ours to make far before technology makes that choice for us. A more powerful tour de force than Niche could ever have dreamed of.

Quick Delivery, Excellent Product Quality - Amazon has Fulfilled Their Part of the Bargain.
Five stars on delivery and product condition, no less. The content of the books themselves, however, are another matter entirely. The first Book (The 3-Body Problem) was the Science Fiction Novel Par Excellence with only the smallest of defects and invention, and the Second Book took the dreadful threat of the Trisolarans as far as it would go. I loved the way the second book ended though, and I felt like a duology would have been enough. The Third Book, however... what can I say? It is a Frankenstein's monster, jammed with too many events and too much fantastic speculation. There is a point when we cross from the realm of fiction to fantasy, and I feel like this book is a mite on the side of being less of an extrapolation and more of an invention. The science presented towards the end seems to bear little basis in reality. Though the author writes of different times and cultures, what I see towards the end seems to bear so little basis in contemporary human behavior that I sometimes wonder whether the author might not be writing about an alien civilization. In the case of this author's literary children, he should have taken the advice of a certain benevolent political strongman of my time who, in response to his people's tendency to procreate, launched a campaign urging them to 'stop at two'. I do not mean this as a slur upon this author's overall ability; if anything, this is my way of praising his first two books, which, besides being a joy to read, furnished me with much food for thought - something that the third book did much less successfully.

The best SciFi I've ever read
I've been reading SciFi since I was a teen. A LONG time ago. Some other favorites, for your calibration pleasure: Dune series, A Fire Upon the Deep, The Foundation Trilogy, The Expanse books, Replay (Grimwood, a very good, unknown book), the Takeshi Kovacs Novels, etc. The great things about these books: * there are so many new ideas, it blows me away--most SciFi have a paltry number of ideas and milk them for the entire book * the ending is amazing--so many SciFi books have good ideas in the middle but terrible endings * I can't stop thinking about the ideas from the book, and it's been weeks since I finished--I was sad to finish because I know I'll likely never read a book this good Beware: it starts off a little slow, with a history lesson of the Cultural Revolution. The translation in the first book isn't as good as the last two. I noticed the translation in the first, and it's not bad, it's just that I noticed it. Didn't notice anything in the 2nd and 3rd. Cixin Liu's brain is a treasure for humanity. I'm thankful he decided to share what is inside it.

awesome
Many novelties for a sci-fi novel, which is not that common. Iโd say that, for me, Liu Cixin ranks clearly among the best of their own times such as I. Asimov, F. Herbert, J. Vance, D. Simmons and P. Bordage.

Sturdy box for boxset, print quality is good.
Unlike other boxsets that have a thin paper cover, these books come in a sturdy, glossy box holder.
