Will these work with smaller 16 gauge wire, specifically Red Brand Yard, Garden, and Kennel fencing?

These should work on any size wire up to size 10 wire. I use them on Red Brand horse fence which is number 12 wire. They clamp down tight once the wire is pressed through and should be fine on number 16.

Can you reverse/slacken the tension on these? Or is it only in one direction?

There is a tool that allows the grip to be released. You can also utilize a "greenie" screwdriver to release it as well.
