Beginner's Guide to Fantasy Drawing

I got this for my sister, who is obsessed with drawing and DnD right now, and it has great guides to drawing DnD characters, like rogues, dwarves, etc. It has basic anatomy chapters, DnD character chapters, and mythical animal chapters (including dragons, unicorns, and griffins). Will be giving it to her for Christmas, and I am sure she will absolutely love it.

Pretty good book, I'm a beginner and it helped me a lot to start to draw characters in the style I like. Kindle version has some formatting issues, but they are mostly in the titles, and doesn't prevent you from reading text.

Bought this for my little nephew who showed some interest in drawing. He's normally on his ipad 24/7 so I'm hoping he'll use this. It seems like a decent little beginner drawing book

There was a lot of good content in this book, and despite this one issue I would have been happy to give this as a present to my child. However the ways female characters were depicted in this book often was "sexy" whereas male characters were "tough". We would have been fine if everyone was tough, but why are all female characters in short skirts and revealing low cut dresses? Can't we get past this? Every flip of a page made me more and more excited to get practicing! I have some experience with drawing, but have done little humanoid work. This really breaks everything down in a digestible and comprehensive way!

Bought this one for my little brother who is an artist like me and he LOVED it. I'm personally a fan of Martin J Abel, the artist who illustrated most of the book, and his work. I think anyone can read this book and be inspired and informed on the simpler side of shape language, anatomy, color theory, and material range.

I got this for my friend for his birthday. He's an art teacher and said he liked the book. It had some good tips and was nice beginner tutorial for fantasy drawing.

Horrible, basically shows how to draw body shapes and that's all. The steps is like the following. Basic rough lines, shaped body (in circles, cylinder, and boxes), then bam you get a cartoony Gandalf. Would be ok if you're just drawing background characters with absolute ZERO facial features, otherwise no. They expect you already be able to do the facial features, volume of hair, shading, clothe wrinkles, silhouette containing different gestures, CHARACTER DESIGNS, etc. It also doesn't have much on perspective, nor does it have characters showing their back side. No isometric view, no bird-eye view. One would at least expect a tutorial how to draw the cover characters but no, none of them is covered. Well there is an unicorn tutorial which gets the same pose but the art style is different, so half of a character gets covered. Many pages talk pretty much about "you can draw from resources looking up from internet." Why would I want to spend money on physical book to tell me this? Cannot believe with so many high rating and 0 negative reviews, the book turns out like this, another beginner how to book that prey on human weakness.

O livro é incrível, apesar de estar no idioma inglês, dá para compreender as técnicas e um pouco da teoria. Livro vem com um cheiro incrível que dá sensação de você ler mais, simples e direto ao ponto, e fácil de compreender. Livro perfeito para quem estar iniciando na pintura digital e que busca criar personagem. Livro veio bem embalado e em perfeito estado!!

Normally I'm not the biggest fan of how to draw books because I find they are too specific. This one does have tutorials for individual characters but the way it walks you through the steps is really useful and can be applyed to most other drawings. overall I think this book has tons of great information that's delivered in a compact and easy to understand way.

No es lo que esperaba ya que yo buscaba un libro para aprender a dibujar personajes caracterizados. El libro te enseña, pero no desde 0: dan muchas cosas por sabidas y se saltan muchos pasos. El libro es bonito y tiene unos dibujos muy estilizados pero para aprender a dibujar no sirve.

I only had the chance to skim it briefly. It doesn't quite seem to be as "beginner" as the title states, but if you have a rudimentary understanding of drawing already it seems to be a great source of references and inspiration. Like any other tool, it is as good as the use you make of it.
